Title: IFLOLS Gauge
Post by: Habu on January 22, 2015, 01:57:22 pm
Posting to inform re RCBarend's very handy IFLOLS gauge. I have great difficulty distinguishing the IFLOLS lights on the Acceleration and Javier's carriers and the IFLOLS gauge solves that problem. Glideslope default is 3.2, but can be easily altered to 4.12 or any other. Can be used with FSX aircraft, as well as with the VRS Superbug with some install modifications. Read about it here:

Thanks 'Habu' - that looks interesting: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/soh_ftp/uploads/imageuploads/998614058769027076.jpg

"- Extended operating range (up to 50 nMile), so you can find a carrier at long distance.
 - Visual deviation from the center of the horizontal beam, using the DatumLights.
 - Display of some basic aircraft and carrier data.

Hence it acts a a full navigational instrument for carrier approaches/arrests; even in  an exterior camera view, like Spotplane.
The gauge can be added in a 2D-window of an aircraft, and can be opened in any view.
It supports (moving) AI aircraft carriers, either started by FSX' AI schedules,  Lamont Clark's AiCarriers2 addon program, or carriers "flown" in multiplayer mode.
 For FSX-Acceleration (or FSX-Gold) ONLY !!!!
See included README for installation and operation details.  By Rob Barendregt."

Here is how to alter the glideslope, to make it compatible with vLSO for example.

Edit the file IFLOLS.xml (in Notepad++), seach for the line:
3.2 (>L:IFLOLS_GlideslopeAngleDegrees,number).
Change 3.2 into N.NN and save the file. I have found that 4.25 makes the ball congruent with the ILS needles.

Thanks for the info Habu....

I'm not a member at SimOuthouse so am unable to download the gauge from that link. Are you able to attach the zip file on these forums.

Thanks.

Author's README prohibits distribution without his approval. Sim Outhouse registration is free and painless.

I was able to DL the gauge, but it won't let "reply" to the discussion thread to ask for the V2.2 update, drat it.  :'(
I'll finger it out, you wait n see!

.......... Sim Outhouse registration is free and painless.

Not for me mate.

Firstly, the SOH is blocked in India, and I can't open the site.

Secondly, if I use a 'proxy' and even reach the site, it doesn't accept 'free email ID'. I only have Gmail ID, and that is ostensibly not acceptable for registration.

Never mind.

I will find a way to reach the author directly through an email. I didn't realize that this is not open to general sim community.

I contacted author also about v2.2. Replied he lost it in a HD crash and never recreated it. Changes were trivial anyway.

This would be a very handy guage if I could adjust the Slideslope. When in triple screen, I cant see the blurry ball. Can you guys tell me how to change it to 3.5+
Thank you.

For changing glideslope this is what 'Habu' has said above in this thread:

"Here is how to alter the glideslope, to make it compatible with vLSO for example.

Edit the file IFLOLS.xml (in Notepad++), search for the line: FREE NOTEPAD ++ Latest Edition: http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.7.4.html

3.2 (>L:IFLOLS_GlideslopeAngleDegrees,number).

Change 3.2 into N.NN and save the file. I have found that 4.25 makes the ball congruent with the ILS needles."

For the gauge to display in VRS TacpackSuperbug, I had to copy all the IFLOLS .bmp files to folder: SimObjects\airplanes\VRS_FA18E\Panel\FA18E\1024

Is there a way to get the guage to work with FCLP and the Nimitz and KittyHawk?

I use the gauge with Javier's Nimitz and acceleration carrier, flying Dino's T45, FSXBA Hornet and VRS Superbug following the default install instructions, except for the VRS. I believe install is aircraft dependent and boat (or airfield??) is irrelevant, so long as it has ILS.

The Enterprise has ILS but the gauge does not see it.

The Enterprise has ILS but the gauge does not see it.

As per the annexed 'Readme' file, the only boats it supports are - the default acceleration carrier and the JF USS Nimitz.

It's a common misconception which needs to be clarified - in FSX neither aircraft nor ships have ILS.
This entity 'exists' only in a gauge, attached to an aircraft. In general, the gauge detects a supported carrier and counts the aircraft's position relative to this carrier, so the gauge then can visualize this position.

A good example is the HUD gauge by Jivko Rusev, which displays ILS bars on the HUD glass. By default the gauge supports only two carriers (Acceleration and Javier CVN68). To distinguish the carriers this gauge uses different NAV1 frequencies. To extend the support I have modified this gauge  (http://vlso.blogspot.com/2015/01/hud-modifications.html)so it now allows using ILS when landing on CVN65, CV63 and R09.

I don't have the gauge in question, but something tells me it utilizes similar techniques...  ;)

I get that the selected aircraft has a "gauge" that shows position to the supported ship.
Paddles, are your updated files only for the 3 aircraft you show?
Thank you

Yes, these updated gauges are for the three mentioned freeware aircraft only.

Thanks Paddles, the updated callouts in the later versions really are immersive. Such a great program.

For info.  I saw FSXNP's comment about location of gauges

I have run a quick test using the FSXBA F-18, Dino Cattaneo's Goshawk and Bear Studios J-15 Naval Flanker.

I flew out to the Nimitz and then the PLAN Liaoning which is supplied by Bear Studios with the J-15.  The F-18 and T-45 ILS/TACAN gauge worked with the Nimitz but NOT the Liaoning.  However, the J-15 gauge worked with both carriers.

The J-15 is a good plane but badly let down by the translation of the manual from Chinese into English.  The original manual was a nightmare to read, the update is now just very difficult.  But a good plane with many redeeming features (e.g. built in IFLOLS).
