Title: Key commands for cockpit/MFD's ?
Post by: Ratcatcher on November 06, 2007, 01:00:57 am
Hi, First off must say what a great job you've done.

OK, I'm very new to FS but have played with LOMAC for ages. In LOMAC I've used touch buddy along with a touch screen to great effect. Two questions.

1. Can you pull up each MFD as a separate panel? My idea is to use my TS and drag an MFD onto it as I can do with the GPS.

If not

2. Are there key commands to activate all the controls used in the MFD's. If so I can create a profile in touch buddy that will allow me to access all the controls on the MFD's and other cockpit controls for that matter. Am I being dense, cos I can't see anything ???

Any help/advice gratefully received. Thanks.

Yes, but you have to modify the panel.cfg by yourself, adding a new 2D window for the MFD. Look the Microsoft FSX SDK, under the "Panel and Gauges SDK", the "Panel Configuration Files.html" document.

Note, the MFD are the only gauges that can be moved to a separate 2D screen, and you will only get the screen area, not the buttons, because those are 3D objects, part of the airplane model.

2. Are there key commands to activate all the controls used in the MFD's.

That would be quite difficult to achieve, since the F/A-18 MFD buttons are 3x20 = 60 separate keystrokes, so we had to use custom events, because there was no chance to get 60 available keystrokes from FSX. In theory, it should be possible to generate these custom events, because I think FSX handles these events by means of Windows messages (WM_xxxxx codes). But you would need to write some kind of Windows application that will generate these events, in response to what you touch on the screen.

Thanks very much for the information.

Not as straight forward as I had hoped. I will certainly look into the modifying the panel.cfg but the key assignment certainly sounds beyond me!

Cheers

Well I have looked up the panel.cfg and the sdk on panel configuration. It has helped...a bit. Unfortunately I haven't the time to really get my head around this.

Looking at the FA18 panel, it shows windows 00 - 03 plus vcockpit01, but when I go into the sim, shift 2 is unassigned, as is shift 4. Would I add another window by adding "window04" ?

Actually the more I look the more uncertain I am, I guess I may have to leave this for someone else.
