A programmable keypad, like the Logitech G13

You could also use FSUIPC
If you have buttons on the OH then you can set FSUIPC to do key presses for you

Witch number make witch command?
They just send that number, as if you pressed it on the keyboard. Every possible command in GSX works through opening its menu (CTRL+Shift+F12 by default, but you can change it) and then a number from 1 to 9 so, you can do everything in GSX by sending via keyboard emulation the main menu-opening command and the numbers from 1 to 9.

A friend of mine who built a full 737 ngx cockpit has used the following
(http://www.cpflight.com/images/OVH-IRS-Display400x300.jpg)
The sim doesnt use this keypad so he programmed it through FSUIPC to use the numbers 1 - 9 for the menu select keys, the ENT key for GSX
These just send a "keypress" to FSX when they are pressed just as if you pressed the number on your keyboard
