Title: CS 767-300 - Wrong classification
Post by: Morten on February 21, 2012, 12:23:18 am
Hi there

First of all, thanks indeed for this fantastic addon!!  :)

One thing, though, the CS 767-300 has been put into a wrong classification - which means that GSX only will work if you park at the Heavies parking/gates!
The CS 767-300 is classified as a Medium aircraft - not as Heavy!

I would appreciate very much if you please could correct this?? - as it is, it's pretty limited for us 767-pilots to find suitable gates all around!   :-\

+1

I'm having this happen a lot at lot of the airports (because a lot of international airports don't have a Heavy Gate) when I fly the 767-300 to as well. :(

The airport parking use the AFCAD file to determine parking size, not GSX. The same thing happens with the B737-200 and small parking.

Yeah okay...

Just found out that the actual wingspan of the 767-300 is 0.78 m. too large in order to be accepted within the FSX/AFCAD standard limit of R23 m. for a Medium parking classification...  :'(

I wonder what happens if I just simply reduce the wingspan a tiny bit inside the 767-300 aircraft.cfg..??  :-\

Not sure about the wingspan thing, please keep up posted.

Ok, now I edited the cs767-300 aircraft.cfg - from wing_span=156.083333 to 150.80 feet and as expected, I'm now allowed to park at any Medium gate!   ;)

This gives me a parking radius of 22,98 m - max. is 23 m. for standard Medium Gates

I am also getting the same problem by parking my Level D 767 at FSDT KORD (United gates - medium, which United parks 767's in real life)

Editing the .cfg won't affect any flight dynamics/airplane models etc.??

Possibly not....yet to be tested, so no guarantees here!!

Just a question, but 767-300 are heavy aircraft. Why are you suggesting they are classed wrong. 250,000 pounds or more makes it a heavy.

It is classified as Medium, period!

The B767-300 is for sure within wake turbulence category Heavy as the MTOW is around 350000lb. Every aircraft with a MTOW higher than 300000lb is classified Heavy with no exception. Only one is the A380 which is in category Super according to FAA. Even if the actual TOW for a flight is below this 300000lb the word Heavy has to be used on Voice communication when flying aircraft with a Certified MTOW higher than this 300000lb.

However the Category has nothing to do with the Aircraft dimensions but solely is refering to it's Maximum takeoff weight.

Edit: Of course this applies in Real World to the wake turbulences. Don't know how FS decides the parking category. But for the wake turbulence Aircraft category the 767-300 is Heavy.

It is classified as Medium, period!
The weights put it in the heavy category.  Explain it.... Period!

It looks like the battle of the newbies has begun! <VBG> I have trouble with the GSX fuel truck running into the left wing. I tried to apply the same logic as this thread and widened the wingspan of the Lear by 5 feet to see if the fuel truck would park 5 feet further from the wing tip. No joy.
Does anyone know what logic the fuel truck uses for parking next to GA turbin a/c?

Guys, sorry for my 767-300 "medium-statement"..!
According to this link, the 767-300 is in fact categorized as "Heavy":

http://www.airlinecodes.co.uk/arctypes.asp

It turns out, however, that the developer of our Captain Sim B 767-300 for some reason has put it into the wrong "medium" category in his configuration. So this is what obviously caused all the confusion!

Anyway, even though not realistic, my solution of shrinking the wingspan in the aircraft.cfg is of course still an option if you are tired of not being aloud to park at medium gates (max. radius 23 m.)

Thanks for the clarification Morten. Was not my intent to be "snippy", was needing clarification for myself. My apologies.
