Hi Virtuali,
I just bought GSX yesterday. AMAZING product ;D, it adds so much realism to the game. Just one thing though, yesterday I tested it out, it worked great, and I shut down my computer. Today, I went to play FSX again and for some reason the Couatl menu is gone and ctrl + F12 doesn't work :-\. The addon manager shows that it is installed and active, so i'm not sure what happened. I didn't do anything to my computer or FSX besides shut it down.
Any Ideas?
Thank You!
-
Try to exit from FSX, reboot Windows and see if it works.
-
Hi Umberto, I tried rebooting but that didn't seem to help. I did notice some kind of runtime error on startup though. This happened both times, do you think it's related to couatl?
-
Ok, the message I get is
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games...
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I get this error about 30 seconds after FSX loads up and I noticed that the Couatl menu is there before I get the error, and then disappears.
Thank You!
-
This seems to indicate your Visual C++ libraries are missing/corrupt or not the right version. Try the following:
- Go in the Windows control panel, and Uninstall ALL the instances of the Visual Studio 2005 redistributable runtimes. You might have more than one version: remove them all.
- Then, after removing everything related to VS2005, reinstall again these 3 files:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&displaylang=en
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=26347
AFTER installing all the runtimes, it could be useful running Windows Update and update everything, including the optional downloads.
-
Hi Umberto, thanks for the quick response. These are the programs I found in the control panel:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.3...
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.3...
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable - 10.0....
I have Windows 7 64 bit. Which of these should I delete/reinstall?
Thank You!
-
Remove all the 32 bit versions of the 2005 runtimes, and download and reinstall all the 32 bit versions of the 2005 runtimes.
Yes, 32 bit even if you use Windows 7 x64, the 64 bit versions are only needed by 64 bit apps, and FSX is still a 32 bit app.
-
Thanks Umberto, I uninstalled both of the Microsoft Visual C ++ 2005 Redistributable programs and downloaded the programs from the links you posted. Unfortunately I still get the error message and couatl crashes. Do you know how this was caused? Because it was working fine one day, and I instantly get the error the next day :-\
Thanks
-
Try a Windows Update after you installed those runtimes, it's likely it will find updated versions/fixes, and install all the optional downloads too, sometimes the VC++ libraries are being fixed even by other things that seems unrelated, like .NET, etc.
-
No luck. This time the couatl updater popped up immediately and when I clicked "update" I got the runtime error again. The update still installed, but when it was done, the "Couatl powered products" option was gone :(. I probably didn't get the error from updating because it happened at around the same time that it usually does.
Thanks Umberto

I've used FSDT sceneries for a long time with no problems, so do you think uninstalling everything and reinstalling everything would help? I tried reinstalling both GSX and KLAX but my couatl problem wasn't solved. I also tried updating the stand-alone addon manager, and that didn't help either. I'm really not sure what the problem could be.
Thanks
-
I don't think that installing sceneries again would made any difference, their installer downloads online the same version of the Addon Manager that GSX uses.
There must be a problem with some system library instead that has gone missing, so you might have to repair FSX instead.
But, before doing that, try to remove the FSX.CFG at %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX and let FSX rebuild a new default one from scratch, sometimes it helps.
-
I will try that. It wont affect any of my aircraft add-ons will it?
-
I will try that. It wont affect any of my aircraft add-ons will it?
Surely not, it will just restore all your graphic setting as default, your startup flight, etc.

Hello Virtuali, I tried your advice, delete FSX.CFG but the problem persists. I really do not know what it may come I have not changed my setup however I have a feeling that this problem appeared after installing X Aerosoft AirbusX.
Help me please!
-
Maybe it's another module that is casing this conflict.
Try this:
- Open your DLL.XML file at %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX\DLL.XML with a text editor like Notepad
- Disable ALL the modules EXCEPT the Addon Manager ( just change <Disabled>False</Disabled> to <Disabled>True</Disabled> in their lines ), then launch FSX and check everything is alright.
- Then, enable each module ONE BY ONE, launch FSX, check, exit, then enable the next one, until you'll eventually find which is the conflicting one.
You might have to do the same for the EXE.XML file at %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX\EXE.XML
In this case, disable everything except couatl.exe
-
Yes I am getting the same problem. It was working fine but today I have no menu :/
-
We are discussing a crash of the VC++ library, just "no menu", it's a different problem. Have you rebooted Windows ?
-
yes, a number of times
-
Try this:
- Uninstall GSX. Reply YES when asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager and the Couatl Engine. Reply YES to both questions. DON'T skip this.
- TURN OFF your antivirus. Don't just exit from its interface, but turn off the real time protection. Actual wording changes between products, however, it's the option to scan every file that gets open in real time, without user intervention.
- Reinstall GSX with the Antivirus TURNED OFF. Don't launch FSX yet.
- Configure the antivirus to exclude the following files from scanning:
YourFSXFolder\bglmanx.dll
YourFSXFolder\fsdreamteam\Couatl\couatl.exe
YourFSXFolder it's usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, if you installed it in the default folder.
- Now you can turn the antivirus back on, and launch FSX.
- Check you are seeing BOTH the "Addon Manager" menu AND the "Couatl powered products" menu under the "Addons" menu
NOTE if you are being asked permission to run the Addon Manager and Coautl modules.
-
I uninstalled the Microsoft Visual C + + 2005, then my scenery "KLAS" and GSX! I reinstalled my scenery and then "GSX" and automatically MV2005C + +. And now I no longer have this error message at the launch of FSX. good point
My problem now is that I can not have "couatl" from the menu "supplements" of fsx ... So I can not use "GSX" "PARK ME" etc..
However the addon manager appears.
What can I do to restore "couatl" in supplements?
-
What can I do to restore "couatl" in supplements
This looks more like an antivirus problem, see the message above this one how to deal with it.
-
ok I tried the above but no joy. I have "addon manager" but not "Couatl powered products" :( I don't understand
-

If you are sure to have done everything exactly, including this
- Uninstall GSX. Reply YES when asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager and the Couatl Engine. Reply YES to both questions. DON'T skip this.
Have you noticed if you have been asked permission to run the Couatl script engine when you launched FSX after reinstalling it ? If you are not sure, do it again from the start and note this.

I also had Airbus X but i recently uninstalled it because it had a lot of problems. I don't think it was caused by this though because all of my FSDT products worked fine until just a couple of days ago when I started up FSX. Airbus x did leave some stuff behind in the dll.xml in %appdata%. Does Couatl have something to do with this Umberto?
Thanks

Hello,
I experienced the same problem, and I think it has something to do with administrator rights und user access control - at least in my case.
Running FSX on a Win7/64 machine with UAC on (second notch from top), I'm using two accounts on this PC: an administrator account for installing and sometimes for testing, and an restricted account for normal flying.
I experienced exactly the same problems as described when running FSX in the administrator account (reinstalling of the Visual C++ 2005 libraries didn't help). When running FSX in the restricted account everything seems to be O.K.
??? Normally that's the other way round: No problems when logged in as admin, but problems when restricted … ;)
I've solved the problem by giving explicite admin rights to <FSX-folder>\fsdreamteam\couatl\couatl.exe - since then I never had the problem again under the admin account, and there are no additional issues under the restricted account, as far as I can see in the moment.
You may try to solve it by right-clicking on the .exe-file and open the properties, then switch on "run program as admin" in the compatibility tab.
But I prefer the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit, which is a much more powerful tool to solve problems caused by the UAC or restricted accounts.
You can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=7352 (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=7352)
Some helpful instructions you can find here, but they're in German - but I'm sure you can find something like this in English in the net, if you can't read German … :) http://www.winfaq.de/faq_html/Content/tip2500/onlinefaq.php?h=tip2534.htm (http://www.winfaq.de/faq_html/Content/tip2500/onlinefaq.php?h=tip2534.htm)
I used the RunAsAdmin- and the RunAsInvoker-option (which turns UAC off for an individual application) for couatl.exe
Maybe this could help you.
Regards

Ok this has worked for me, I am seeing the menu and everything, However, I have a new problem. When the ground crew ask me if I am ready for a push back, as soon as I press yes all the vehicles and people vanish?
-
Hi Umberto,
Great news, I got Couatl to work by running couatl.exe as an administrator. Couatl works when I do this but I can only open couatl externally now. How can I make it inside FSX but still be run as administrator?
Thank you!
-

That message doesn't expect you to say a Yes or a No. If it were, it would have opened the menu with Yes/no automatically. You are not supposed to reply to that question, it's just a way to get your attention.
BUT, since you thought you had to reply, and pressed CTRL+F12, at that stage the only option available is the request to CANCEL the Pushback (the Window Title says "Cancel Pushback" !!) with Yes meaning "Yes, I want to Cancel Pushback" and No meaning "No, I've changed my mind, I don't want to cancel pushback"
So, people vanished when you said Yes, because you said Yes to Cancel the Pushback.
-
ah my bad, thanks very much for the help, Restarted pc, turned on antivirus and everything is working fantastic, you truly have a great product, the wait was worth it and I look forward to updates! :D
thanks again

Ok, we need to activate the Simconnect diagnostic, to see why it doesn't start:
Open Notepad, and copy the following text:
[SimConnect]
level=errors
console=1
RedirectStdOutToConsole=1
OutputDebugString=1
; file=c:\simconnect%03u.log
; file_next_index=0
; file_max_index=9
Save the file as SIMCONNECT.INI in this folder:
Documents And Settings\YOUR LOGIN NAME\Documents\Microsoft Flight Simulator X Files
At the next FSX launch, you should see a text window with diagnostic messages: the FIRST 10 lines or so are important: you should try to note what they are saying.

Hi there!
I have the same problem too. Purchased GSX on release date, installed it and all worked perfectly. But the next day, the couatl-menu went away from the add-on-menu.
Starting the couatl.exe manually brings the menu-item back and all works normally.
Reinstalling GSX as noted in this thread (with deactivated antivir etc.) doesn't help to solve the problem.
The Simconnect Diagnostic Output stays empty, th eonly text which is shown is:
"0.00000 SimConnect version 10.0.61259.0"
This is my dll.xml:

Maybe there isn't enough diagnostic, try to change
level = Errors
into
level = Normal
in the Simconnect.ini file, and see if there's more info. Note that it might scroll very fast, you can use the "Pause" key on the keyboard to pause it.

Umberto,
I tried again and this time I got something. These are the first couple lines:
0.00000 SimConnect version 10.0.61259.0
2.63790 Exe Launched: Path= "fsdtreamteam\couatl\couatl.exe" CommandLine="" Version="2.0.0.2290
Then it has some stuff about my Saitek Pro Flight Panels and then EZCA.
After doing this, i'm getting that runtime error again with the Visual C++
Thank you for the help
