Title: KLAX
Post by: KingCat on October 04, 2011, 01:22:24 pm
I purchased KLAX a few days ago, and I just did an 11 hour flight from EHAM to KLAX. I must say the scenery looks really nice, but I'm especially impressed by the good framerates. Even with the PMDG 747-400, I'm getting an average of 25 fps.  :)

Really amazing how such a detailed airport can still have high fps. I guess it just depends on who developes the airport. Maybe you can design all of your past and future sceneries the same way as KLAX was done.

Maybe FSDT can do a remake of EHAM. I bet the fps would be better than the current Aerosoft version.  ;D

But would it sell better?  I think Aerosoft sales of EHAM have been disappointing.

That's great! What are your settings?

If you have the PMDG MD-11 and have the time try EHAM-KLAX and see what KLAX looks like at the end of the flight. I have both the PMDG MD-11 and 744. I have done about 15 flights from EHAM, EDDF, and EDDM to KLAX since it was released using the MD-11. You can see the results in the thread about 7 or 8 down from this one and it's  subject is KLAX strange objects. No problem in the 744. Still working on the MD-11. As a matter of fact I am one hour and fourteen minutes into a EHAM-KLAX right now trying essentially a default fsx.cfg file.

Original problem is gone using the rebuilt fsx.cfg file. Now there are partial buildings and no jetways.

I do not own the PMDG MD-11 so I cannot test that. But I'm using a Nvidia GTX 285 with no problems. If you're not experiencing the problems you mentioned in the PMDG B744, then it must be a problem with the MD-11. I can imagine how frustrating it is if something does not work the way it should, especially after an 11 hr. flight.

Jon,

Which drivers (and settings?) are you using on your GTX 285? I am using the 197.13 (March 2010) on the same video card and just getting 15fps average at KLAX...I was just wondering if the more recent drivers for this card are better.
Thanks for your response,

Johan

I'm using version 258.96

15 fps doesn't sound too bad depending on the aircraft you're using. I think it also depends on the hardware you have in your PC.

This is my configuration:

- Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
- Intel Core i7 980x at 3.3 Ghz. (not overclocked).
- 6 GB RAM (1.066 Mhz.).
- Nvidia GTX 285 with 1 GB RAM.
- Asus P6T Deluxe v2 motherboard.
- Samsung SyncMaster 940BF 19" monitor.

I have included a .cfg file with this post that includes the settings in FSX that I use for KLAX. This file can be loaded in FSX from the "Settings" tab.

I hope this helps a bit.

Thanks Jon, I will try tonight. My hardware is not much different than yours, so I hope a little tweaking will improve a bit. Sometimes I drop below 10fps when I face the airport in the VC or with the 2-D panel open (with the default 747). I am overall very pleased with the scenery though.
Again, thanks for sharing,

Johan
