Title: narrow fsx view options
Post by: fael097 on January 25, 2011, 11:30:16 am
hey peeps, in fsx i most often use the virtual cockpit and locked spot views, so i was wondering if its possible to narrow views cycle just to these ones. it bothers me by mistake pressing the wrong button, and having to cicle between all views / categories again (or returning, sometimes i end up pressing another wrong button lol) is it possible?

also, i need a reset view on my VC. like, i pan the VC view to an instrument, and when i pan back, it doesnt fits right in the center, and when i press numpad 5, it centers on the seat, not on my screen. shit thats been pissing me off. any solutions?
cheers

fael097,

1. Actually it's easy to get rid of unwanted views. Open your cameras.cfg file (the one located in the Applications and Data\Microsoft\FSX folder, not in the main FSX folder!) and edit as follows:
- if you want to 'disable' a view, i.e. make it unselectable when changing views by 'A' key, just add a CycleHidden=True statement to that view's camera definition;
- if you want to completely get rid of a view, remove whole view's definition, i.e. [CameraDefinition.XXX] section.

Remember, if you 'disabled' a view, it can still be selected via FSX menu.
Of course, it would be wise to make a backup of the cameras.cfg prior to making any changes...  ;)

2. You can use Ctrl-Spacebar to reset your view position.

thanks mate, that was really helpful
right now im @ work, but i'll try as soon as i get home.
btw, i have 2 other questions

1.the default external view is Spot. can set it to Locked Spot? so it will load as default, and i dont need to switch category inside current view everytime.

2.can i set a view position as default, so ctrl+spacebar will reset to that position?

thanks again mate

fael097,

1. Yes, you can change views order - just swap Spot and Locked Spot [CameraDefinition.XXX] sections of the cameras.cfg. You do not even need to change their numbers, as FSX loads them in order of appearance. Cool, eh?...  8)

2. Let me guess... Do you want to change your VC eyepoint position? Then you will need to tweak your aircraft's aircraft.cfg file. Read this useful thread http://forum.avsim.net/topic/322515-fsx-eyepoint-virtual-cockpit/ (http://forum.avsim.net/topic/322515-fsx-eyepoint-virtual-cockpit/)

If you have SDK installed, you can read Core Utilities Kit/Camera Configuration/Camera Configuration.htm, explaining everything about views and cameras in FSX.

Hope this will help

thats it... last thing lol

fsrecorder and some other addon created 2 other views, that are not on the aircraft config file, do you happen to know where they should be?

AFAIK FSrecorder doesn't change views. At least my copy of FSrecorder doesn't  :)

I do know that camera definitions are usually placed in the cameras.cfg and aircraft.cfg files. Also you can find them in flight (.FLT) and/or mission (.XML) files.
The last two are flight/mission specific only, so you can't select your unwanted view in other flight/mission.

i say that because in cameras.cfg i disabled all of them but VC and locket spot, but i still have two cameras cycling, other than those, i have FSRecorder VC, and Front view (i cant remember their exact names, but one does say FSRecorder) and they're cycling not inside a category, but as different cats. so they are probably somewhere else. btw i think im usin FSRecorder beta. lol cant be sure now, im @ work
i'll try the aircraft.cfg, but idk, its weird cuz im trying it in free flight.

Just checked my FSRecorder setup - no extra views in FSX...  ???

these are the 2 views that are not present on the cameras.cfg:

FSrecorder VC:

Aircraft view:

fsrecorder only created the first one, but im not able to locate where the second one is placed aswell.
shit i dont want these views to be part of my cycle! lol

fael097,
I had to upgrade my FSRecorder 1.331 to the latest 2.01 version (which is a great improvement to this tool, though) and now I can see what's your problem. Well, actually it's easy to disable FSRecorder's cameras - open its menu, hit Settings and check Disable Camera Features, then restart FSX and voila - no more extra views!  ;D

PS. Also you can disable FSRecorder cameras in a hardcore  8) way - add to the FSRecorder.ini file (located in the Program files/FS Recorder for FSX/ folder) these lines:

[SETTINGS]
DisableCameras=1

lol it was there all the time, i should have checked that before.
well, thanks one more time...

btw, how about the aircraft view camera? its not a fsrecorder camera, i think. and yet its not on the cameras.cfg

That would be [CameraDefinition.x] in your aircraft.cfg.

shit.... something else is pissing me off again!

i managed to make it cycle between locked spot, and VC, but now i want to cycle between CUSTOM vc view and locked spot, and it just wont work.

it ALWAYS starts on FSX default VC, and my custom vc will never be a part of the cycle, unless i select it manually in fsx first.

how do i do so?!?

xpadder saves the day again... i had to assign f9 to VRS cockpit view, and f10 to locked spot, and with xpadder, i can make a single button a cycle button, so the first time you press its f9, the second time f10, then again.

:D
