Title: Error dialing frequency and HUD issue
Post by: ryanbatcund on November 02, 2010, 10:41:18 pm
Flying on vatsim for the first time today (in this F18) - had some issues with a few things.

First off, going to the XPNDR page, and dialing in my beacon code did not work.  It took 3 tries to get the code to stay locked in.  The first two tries it kept defaulting to 1200.

Why is that?

Second.  My HUD was offset to the point where it was mostly useless (sometimes it was completely off the screen).  Granted, I do use that modded hud...  what's up here?

Third.  I could NOT dial frequency 135.47  It would result in ERROR everytime.  I can dial that in in any other aircraft no issues.

That is your HUD calculating for the wind.  You're going to want to pull up the HUD control panel with shift + 2, and then turn the CAGE on.

The Hornet sometimes has problems when dialing frequencies directly into the UFC panel. It's a bug. I usually dial through the Cessna Radio Stack Panel (either Shift+3 or Shift+4).

You probably have about 30 kts of wind coming from W ;D You need to cage the HUD. When you do that, the velocity vector will be "caged" to the center-line of the HUD, and you will always see it. It will correctly show your climb angle, but in this case you will still be drifting to the left because of the westerly wind. When the velocity vector is caged, a true vector also appears on the HUD and is called ghost vector. In the photo below, the aircraft is in a downwind turn, so the wind is coming from the left and the jet is drifting to the right.

Ok dokie that pretty much answers my questions thanks!

Oh, and you're the designer of the modded HUD gauge right?  I saw that one with guns, do you plan to make one for missiles?

Well, missiles are a lot more complicated than bullets ;)

Lol,

That's why he asked you.
If they were simpler, I would have done them up, right?

Did you try and shift your chair a little bit to the right.
It worked for me, lol.

Don't kick my a** for this now, I waz just kidding.

Fellas...

Thanks for the concern but Im alive and well.  Just been working on several projects and one of them is the chaff/flare system, and its been grinding to say the least.  Definately some roadblocks but thats why I like tweaking/testing/modding to begin with, if it were easy, everyone would do it.

Will let you know of the other projects as they come to light, but dont worry, I think most of you will like the things we are coming up with.
