I openend P3D this morning and I got a message to run the FSDT Live Updater - so I did.
However, it keeps crashing (around 28 to 30 of 510).
Any suggestions?
-
Now nothing FSDT related is working (GSX, KJFK or KORD)
-
Please indicate any error messages you see.
-
No error message at all - the installer/updater just closes (as a Windows application) with no error.

Check if you have anything in the Application log of the Windows Event Viewer.

Hi,
I have GSX level2 and PHNL installed. Windows anti-virous excluded Addon Manager folder. I double click the desktop icon FSDT Live Update but it does not launch.
Also, in P3dv5HF2, I only see Addon manager in menu. No GSX or Couatl.
Thanks for any help.
-
- Configure the antivirus to add the whole Addon manager to the antivirus Exclusions.
- Start the FSDT Live Update again
- If that doesn't work, check Windows Update and be sure your Windows is fully updated
- Try again after a Windows restart.

Hello,
today I've done a fresh installation of Windows.
I did all the update requested from Microsoft.
Current version 21H2 - 19044.1526
I installed gsx from the official installer, but once finish the download and installation the update app did not start.
I opened manually but after a couple of sec it closes.
I tried also to activate using p3d but it gives me firewall error. ps. I disabled windows defender and firewall.
I hope I'll resolve that issue.
Thanks in advance
SC

- Be sure you add the whole Addon Manager folder to the antivirus Exclusions
- Be sure the firewall is disabled or you grant explicit permission to the updater to go online
- Run the FSDT Live Update again
- Be sure all your Windows updates have been installed
- Try running the FSDT Live Update again after a Windows reboot.

As you can see
I can only see you disabled the firewall AND you got a message stating that the program couldn't start because EITHER the firewall OR the antivirus might have blocked it.
Since you haven't posted anything about your antivirus settings, I can't possibly say if the problem might be the antivirus. The WHOLE Addon Manager folder must be excluded, not just single executables.
There's a way to log other problems when the program doesn't start:
- open the Notepad and type the following on a new blank file:
logFile=couatl.log
(please note logFile is written beginning with a lower case L and a capital F )
- Save the file as couatl.ini in the %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder
- Run the sim, then exit after the error appears.
- Check your %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder and if there's a Couatl.LOG file there, post its content
- DO NOT copy the file in a message, but use the "Attach" function of the forum to ZIP the log file and Attach it to a post.
If you don't have a Couatl.LOG file, and you are SURE you followed all the previous instructions to the letter, it means the program was prevented to start before it even had a chance to execute a single line of its code. And this can ONLY be caused by:
- The antivirus
- Missing system libraries, caused by missing Windows updates
If, instead, you DO have a Couatl.LOG file, then it's something else entirely, meaning the program started by then it exited for some reason. ZIP it and attached it so I can check it.

The log
I modified from .log to .txt

Hi!
Same problem - not working Live Update.
New Windows 10 with last all updates installed. New setup P3D 5.3.17.28160.
Installed Visual C++ Redist 2005-2022.
When I install gsx_p3d4_setup.exe, installed download some files, then setup and (as I remember) must launch Live Update. But installed show end of setup with Exit button.
When I try to launch Couatl_Updater2.exe manually, nothing to do.

With the limited information I can gather by looking at a Windows error in Russian, it seems you have a problem with .NET, which is making the QLM/Soraco license library failed to register.
You can produce a better log by starting the Couatl_Updater2 manually from the Command line, this way:
- Open a CMD command prompt in the Addon Manager folder.
- Type this Couatl_Updater2 /LOG
After the error, you should see a log.txt file in the same folder. DO NOT POST THIS but, ZIP IT and Attach it to a post so I can look at it.
-
I run D:\Games\Addon Manager\Couatl_Updater2.exe /LOG
but log.txt is empty
-
I modified from .log to .txt
That's why I said to ZIP IT, so you could attach it without having to rename it.
In any case, the log clearly shows the problem is either your firewall or your antivirus blocking the updated, because your version of Couatl is VERY old, it's build 4475, when the current one that has been online since months ( and hasn't changed in this update ), it's 4612.
You said you installed from the official installer, do you mean you downloaded it again, or you used an old installer you had before ? Because, with the new installer, it's impossible to have an old version, since the current installer contains the current version so, you should end up with that one, even if the firewall or antivirus is blocking the subsequent updater.
If, instead, you used an older installer, this should work too, but than it would explain why you have an older version of the .exe: the updater which the installer runs at the end has been blocked, not entirely ( so it's likely the antivirus, not the firewall ), but some files has been updated, and some have been blocked, and when there's mix-up of version, the program will never work.
So yes, looking at your logo, it's clear why it doesn't work ( outdated version ), and it's likely caused by the antivirus blocking parts of the update process that happens at the end of the installation.
-
I run D:\Games\Addon Manager\Couatl_Updater2.exe /LOG but log.txt is empty
Are you sure the updater closed ? If yes, it's likely the error happened too quickly after logging started, so it didn't had any chances to log anything.
Try to run the FSDT Live Update again, and try logging again, I've added extra log information in an updated version.
Run the FSDT Live Update from the Desktop icon first, and then run the updater2 from the command line, if you don't do that, you won't get the updated updater.
Hopefully, the updated updater should log more but, I'm fairly sure it's a problem of some of your .NET libraries missing.

How I'm trying to stop all antivirus again and re-download the software
-
How I'm trying to stop all antivirus again and re-download the software
Nowhere I said to stop the antivirus. No antivirus can be really "stopped", because its low-level service is still running so, unless you completely uninstall it, it's not possible to stop it.
That's why we never suggested to stop the antivirus but, instead, adding the WHOLE Addon Manager folder to the antivirus EXCLUSIONS.
And yes, we had some users that recently reported some antivirus even ignored the Exclusions, in that case I would suggest switching to a more reliable one.
-
“Configure the antivirus to add the whole Addon manager to the antivirus Exclusions.“
I’m sorry, what do you mean by “WHOLE ADDON MANAGER”?
Thanks again for any help

I've reinstalled the system twice over the past year, each time from scratch. GSX is the plugin with which there were no problems at all.
Now I tried to roll back the latest updates and reinstall them, the update still does not work and, accordingly, GSX is not installed.
The log file is created empty.
-
Same issue here, just did a complete new install and live update is not launching, also P3D does not start couatl automatically. Everything is set up correctly, worked fine a month ago when i reinstalled from scratch. No antivirus, no missing libraries. Couatl updater log command from command line creates an empty Log.txt file.
-
Since there are already several people with this problem, perhaps the developer will pay attention to us
-
Same thing here. Got error after the passenger walking update, decided to reinstall and now it wont run LiveUpdate. The software is even getting problems to register.
-
Same here having the issue. Nothing working .Previous installations worked perfectly fine. Firewall off, Antivirus off( disabled), installed outside of Program Files folder, still nothing.
.Net seems to be updated to 4.5
C++ libraries all installed
Its either in installer error or a rogue Windows Update ( which does not surprise me)
I have KB5009647 installed - wondering if anybody else does also and experiencing this
Tried to update Windows again , but tells me " all up to date"
Strange that my last installation on Dec 26 worked fine with no errors.
Hope this gets resolved soon , now all my FSDT programs do not work.
Also had a Failed SHA256 error in the log
After trying to run Live Update and opens and close ( with nothing happening)
I went into Windows Event viewer and noticed the following:

Same problem here.

I was able to make it work after using the Universal Installer that umberto posted here
http://www.virtualisoftware.com/update/FSDT_Universal_Installer.exe (http://www.virtualisoftware.com/update/FSDT_Universal_Installer.exe)
The walk in gates still a no go for me. The software crashes, the stair in the back is stuck. Enabled the bus option again and it works as in the past.

With universal installer the live update started but then it disappeared. I was waiting for it remain open and wait for me to click on EXIT button.

The new updater doesn't require you to click the Exit button, which wasn't really needed, since the update process ended anyway so now, it just exits automatically when it's done.

Also had a Failed SHA256 error in the log
THIS is the one and only issue. why the program is not starting in your case.
The SHA256 error it's 100% caused by the firewall or antivirus blocking the download of the updated version of the latest couatl.exe program, which hasn't changed with this update, which means you still have an old version for some reason. And the one and only possible reason why your couatl.exe is not updated, it's because your firewall or antivirus ( most likely the antivirus ) allowed to download some files and blocked others, causing a mix-match of old and new files, and the reason for the SHA256 check is precisely to prevent that, to be sure you are running the latest .exe with the correct set of files.
So yes, if you still have this error in the log, it's 100% firewall or antivirus.

Antivirus might have been the one user's issue, but it is the issue that every is having. I am having this same issue. I just reinstalled Windows and was reinstalling P3D and my addons. I've done nothing different than before, but FSDT update will not work, and Couatl will not start in the simulator.
I have turned off my antivirus before installing. I have turned off my antivirus before updating. I have turned off antivirus before running the simulator. Everything related to P3D is installed in subfolders of a dedicated, and the entire folder is excluded from antivirus, and the Addon Manager folder is separately excluded from antivirus.
I'm getting two errors in the Windows Event Log.

Hi
Yesterday I bought the GSX both packages and download from the product page , unfortunately I am unable to register
Exclude the folder in the virusscanner ** see attachement also log**
Ran the fsdt live updater but also no luck
Operating system is windows 11 and trying to install in pr3d v5
Any suggestions to fix this
Kind Regards
Mark
-
I reinstall GSX Today, however, Im unable to register as I have a message telling me that couatl64_P3D.exe is not running, I already excluded that exe and addon manager folder into exclusion section of Windows Defender, cannot run fsdt live update as well, in the events observer there is :
Application : Couatl_Updater2.exe
Version du Framework : v4.0.30319
Description : le processus a été arrêté en raison d'une exception non gérée.

- Configure the antivirus to add the whole Addon manager to the antivirus Exclusions.
- Start the FSDT Live Update again
- If that doesn't work, check Windows Update and be sure your Windows is fully updated
- Try again after a Windows restart.
Here's the problem:
The GSX version that download from FSDT webpage doesn't compatible with P3DV5.3 HF2. The GSX will disappear when enter the P3D.
And the Couatl.exe will crash, which means we need to run Live updater.
But if the user is operating windows 11, The Live updater will crash.
So, the new installed win11 and P3DV5.3HF2 user, will unable to use GSX for current time.
-
I tried to re-install again windows but I have the same problem.
-
I have been experiencing the same problem when trying to update, I get the initial splash screen and press next, 2 secondsd later it vanishes and I have the attached errors in Event Viewer.
Others also mentioned removing GSX and redownloading the latest installer. I have now done this THREE times and the "gsx_p3d4_setup2-6.bin" still has a hash mismatch when I check values given here. I get corrupted error messages when trying to install. User error cannot be blamed when the installer itself automatically downloads the required installation bin files. Antivirus is disabled. I will try the universal installer and perhaps try downloading on a laptop.
I have been using this to start the GSX downloader and installer.

I see in your screenshot is trying to update the GSX Control Panel, which is an .EXE file so, most likely, it's the antivirus freaking out, because it's an .EXE.
- Configure the antivirus to add the whole Addon Manager folder to the antivirus Exclusions.
- Run the update again.

I've merged all the identical threads about the Live Update crashing into this one, because people continuing to open new threads without checking if the same issue already has a thread opened, makes the forum very difficult to read.
I tried to re-install again windows but I have the same problem.
Are you sure you ran the updater today ? We had another fix that should, in theory, fix that error at start.
If that still doesn't work, you can try using the new Universal installer, which seem to have fixed the issue for several users. Here's the link to the Universal Installer, which has been posted before:

Mine disappears from the desktop after "step 8 of 35". Declared as exception in Antivirus and run als admin, even with Antivirus inactive. And already installed the today linked universal installer. Is that a malfunction or is just not more to do (but why then 8 of 35?). Should the window not stay open and to be closed with "Exit"?
EDIT: I now saw Umberto´s post:
"he new updater doesn't require you to click the Exit button, which wasn't really needed, since the update process ended anyway so now, it just exits automatically when it's done. "
So only remaining the question: Is it o.k. I cannot see the steps 9 to 35 run as they are probably not necessary and all is o.k.?

Since this seems to have confused too many people, not being sure if it exited intentionally because it was done, or it just crashed to desktop because of an error, we mad a change to have the new update work as the previous version, so it WILL wait to press the Exit button and the end of the process now.

Yes, of course it's ok, and in this case is exactly the same as with the previous version, just this time the steps are only 35, instead of more than 500 like they use to to be, because many tasks which were previously listed as separate steps, are now grouped together. I don't think it was useful to have the GSX Traffic Cone being listed as separate step as the GSX Marshaller, and grouping many steps together is also result in faster processing.
Which means, as in the previous version, the only way to see all 500+ steps performed was to have *every* FSDT product installed, both in FSX/P3D and MSFS as well, now it's the same, just with 35 steps.

Great i solved the issue I had
1 Download and ran the standalone updater ( link in of the messages above)
2 Start the live updater with admin rights.
That was all

Good morning
It is now working. I don't know if you changed something on the installer or is due to the fact that Avast updated itself overnight (or both)
I will test the results in P3D tonight. Thanks again

Hello, Just did a fresh install of P3DV5 and adding all of my FSDT addons.
I usually start with GSX and then go from there with adding airports. After downloading and installing GSX when loading the sim and trying to activate GSX, I get a warning that the couatl is not running and it gives the suggestion to exclude the Addon Manager from the antivirus (which I always do anyway). So I exit the sim and attempt the Live update. The program opens and then immediately closes, does not go through the normal update process I remember with the Live Updater. Open the sim and same issue when trying to activate GSX - couatl not running. Try Live Updater again with same issue - closes almost immediately. So, I checked that the Addon Manager was in fact excluded which it is. Un-installed GSX and Addon Manager, Restart windows, and turned off the Firewall to redownload and install. Same result. Tried with a different product (KCLT and then KORD), all are the same problem - seems to install fine but then when I go to activate I get the error about couatl and when I try Live Update same issue with it closing right away. One thing that may be worth noting - I think I remember that during the install process the installer would usually automatically run the Live Updater at the end, I did notice it try to do this (with KCLT and KORD) but it also seemed like the Live Updater wasn't working during the install process, let alone when I attempt to run it using the desktop shortcut.
Looking for guidance. Haven't tried it with any other product, I just figured I wouldn't bother going down the list and trying to install them all if its a Live Update or couatl issue as I would probably get the same result.
Thank You,
Kristopher Seguin

I merged your post into the proper thread about the Live Update. If you checked this post, most user that had issues running the Live Update, fixed it by using the new FSDT Universal Installer:

Update problem is back :(
Update works just fine. As usual:
- Configure the antivirus and add the whole Addon Manager to the antivirus Exclusions.
- Be sure the firewall is not interfering
- Run the FSDT LIve Live Update or, as indicated in the previous post, install the FSDT Universal Installer.

but as usual
I did this steps already. Just woke up with this problem, something triggered a different behaviour this time and since there is an updated version there is a good chance that the installer now works differently. Before investing more time to debug everything else can I have some help?

We had an update today but, of course, every update is tested. Please describe exactly what's happening:
- Have you installed the Universal Installer ?
- Are you starting from the FSDT Update icon or from the FSDT Installer icon ?
- What's happening, exactly ? Do you see errors ? If yes, which ones ? If yes, when ?
- Does the problem happens in Update mode, in Install mode, or both ?

When I use the Live update it dissapears on Step1 You can see a screenshot on my first message
Universal (FSDT Installer) doesn't say much as well. It vanishes at the same step with the updater.

Ok, now that you edited it after my post, I can see the screenshot.

If that's the exact steps, looks like it's stopping in the only part that is not our code: is running the official MS Visual Studio Redistributable installer from the temporary folder.
This is highly suspicious of being caused by the antivirus: they monitor the Windows temporary folder so, even excluding the Addon Manager folder won't help in this case, since it's blocking the Temp folder instead.
Try this:
- Use the Windows built-in function to remove temporary files:
https://pureinfotech.com/remove-temporary-files-windows-10/
- Restart Windows
- Try again

This seems to have crept back in with the latest updates from FSDT - the Updatedr gets about half-way through updating everything and then closes itself.
The fixes from last time don't seem to be working this time (even a complete re-install of GSX)

You haven't said how you started it.
If you start it as an updater, meaning you start it from the "FSDT Live Update" icon, it WILL automatically close after updating everything that needs to be updated. The only case in which the updater will complete ALL steps, is if you have ALL FSDT products installed, otherwise it will just skip the ones you don't have.
If, instead, you start it as an installer, meaning you start it from the "FSDT Installer" icon, it won't automatically close, because it's waiting for your input to know what to do and won't exit automatically.

If i start from the FSDT installer it constantly say I have UPDATE 1 Selected even after a UPDATE ALL, why is this? I have MS2020 and P3dV4 products both not on hide

I don't understand what your problem is.
After you do an "update all", when it's done (again, updating ONLY the products you have installed, that's what "all" means, it wouldn't make any sense updating something which is not there ), it will go back to the default situation, which is the first product on the list selected ( that's what "1" means ), because now it's waiting for you to do something else.
That's because the product list can use multi-selection, so if you select more than one product, the "Update 1" button will change, showing how many products you have selected, and will be checked for update IF you press the Update (x) button.
