Title: Server missing Addon Manager list
Post by: c09RKC on September 18, 2019, 05:09:12 pm
Hi!

I purchased the GSX Bundle. Well worth it. My setup P3D on six comptrs, one of which is the server. The other five cmptrs run scenery for the scenery TVs.

I installed GSX/GSX2 on all cmptrs and have run Live Update a few times on all. I know GSX doesn't work across a network so the only cmptr that'll benefit with the visuals such as catering, pax and such will be the Server.

In the Server however, I'm not seeing under Addons is "Addon Manager, Couatl settings, Couatl Live Update and GSX". Those (4) items are listed on the five scenery cmptrs but not the Server. I don't know why.

All Live Update files show 617KB. Can anyone help with "enabling" GSX on the Server?

Tkx - Doug

It seems you installed GSX on the scenery computers, and not on the server. One thing is not clear, is the server supposed to show something ? You'll need some kind of visual, if only to operate with the GSX menu.

Yes, GSX/GSX2 are on the Server. I uninstalled GSX, then reinstalled the bundle... first GSX (then reboot), then v2 (reboot). The Server's Add-Remove Programs list shows "FSDream Team GSX version 2.7.0."

The remote's Add-Remove list shows correctly. GSX, Couatl etc.

>>is the server supposed to show something<<
Since the Server's the only cmptr that'll show animations I would think so. I've gone to FSDT airports and sat there for awhile never seeing GSX2 animations.

While all remote machines do show the GSX items under Addons, I think the culprit is in not seeing the detailed menu items on the Server cmptr, but if we can get there, all be fixed. I guess I could uninstall GSX and reinstall again using the same .exe's I used on the remotes like I did the 1st time around.

Clearly I screwed something up (grin).

...forgot to mention, I've run Live Update a number of times on the Server and all remotes.

Sorry but, I still not entirely clear how your system works. Since GSX doesn't work over a network, installing on the remotes is not even needed, and won't do anything. The only system you need to install GSX to would be the server, if with "server" you mean the computer that loads the airplane flight model.

In this case, the server should have the ability to let you access the standard menu, otherwise you wouldn't be able to command GSX. However, you won't be able to see any GSX vehicles/animations on the remotes, regardless if GSX is installed there or not. For example, in case of Pushback, the GSX installed on the server WILL pushback your plane, but you won't see any tow truck on the remotes.

>>Since GSX doesn't work over a network, installing on the remotes is not even needed, and won't do anything.<<
Ok. The only reason I did this was the msg's I got saying (in effect) some scenery required GSX2 to properly work. I must've misunderstood.

That said, we can treat this exactly as if this were a single cmptr desktop setup, and the desktop, the ONLY cmptr isn't showing anything regarding GSX under P3D's "Addons". Again, Add/Remove Programs shows "FSDreamTeam GSX version 2.7.0" so we know it's installed.

>>...if with "server" you mean the computer that loads the airplane flight model.<<
Yes. We'll now treat this as normal, a one cmptr setup.

Testing, I uninstalled GSX (both the original GSX & L2 install), then installed GSX (the original). No change, nothing under P3D's Add-ons. I again uninstalled GSX and installed GSX L2. Same results. Something's blocking GSX somewhere, I've no idea.

I noticed something that's probably the answer. I received a key with the purchase but nowhere was I ever asked to enter the key. It's apparently not registered however, I never registered the other five cmptrs either but they do show the info.

The Addon-Manager is now Live Update, correct? I shouldn't expect to see the FSDT's "Addon Manager" in the P3D Add-on list anymore, correct? Man I feel stupid, the answer's probably right in front of me. Where would I register GSX? Please don't tell me the FSDT's "Addon Manager" under Add-ons in P3D LOL! It's just not there.

I noticed on another thread:

>>...and COUATL to also not being able to restart none of the GSX menus...<<

Sounds like what I'm seeing. For kicks I ran COUATL.EXE from Explorer, nothing happens. The other thread indicated COUATL is what launches GSX...? I wouldn't know.

Could a corrupt COUATL.EXE be a possible issue (I'm just guessing).  I assume COUATL is installed at the same time GSX is installed. When running P3D, I do not see COUATL as an option under "Addons".

Tkx for your patience (grin). Like I said, this isn't a show-stopper but I'd sure like to see it all work.

In that case, yes, if you have some FSDT sceneries, they requires GSX to show jetways. Problem is, I don't think jetways will move over the client system when triggered from the server, so they'll likely stay static.

I assume COUATL is installed at the same time GSX is installed. When running P3D, I do not see COUATL as an option under "Addons".

Yes, Couatl is installed together with GSX and should always appear. But you are supposed to get a message at start, if Couatl is not running, suggesting several option, like excluding the Addon Manager folder from the antivirus, etc.

The thread named "Addon Manager not showing up in P3Dv4 **SOLVED**" thread lists all the known solutions for missing menu entries from the "Addons" menu:

>>But you are supposed to get a message at start, if Couatl is not running, suggesting several option, like excluding the Addon Manager folder from the antivirus, etc.<<

No, never saw that msg. Also, i have no antivirus on this particular PC.

Tkx for the thread - it's so far above this 65yr olds head though (grin). 'Bout got a nose bleed LOL.

This is what I will do though... I saw on another thread he fixed this by uninstalling Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2013 & 2015, then reinstall tomorrow.

I'll create a Restore Point before proceeding though.

The thread said:

>>Caught it. I think it was the 2005 or 2013 Microsoft VC++. Repair option doesn't do the trick, you need to completely uninstall it and reinstall it from a fresh download. I'm wondering if UTL is corrupting those files. Sorry for the trouble. I appreciate your help.<<

So I'll uninstall GSX, uninstall "Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2013 & 2015", reinstall 2013  & 2015, then reinstall GSX. I'm sure you remember the post. We shall see (grin).

I uninstalled GSX, Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2013 (2015 wasn't there). Installed GSX, then 2013 & launched GSX. Rebooted, no change. The Addon items weren't there. I then tried to install 2015 but it said can't install, that another program was blah-blah-blah.

Anyway - I'm throwing in the towel guys. I REALLY appreciated the ideas, you're the best!

Wait a minute. 2015 wouldn't install but 2013 does? 2017 (the latest) is newer than 2013. Illogical.

It seems you don't need the VS 2015, because you already installed the latest version, which supports 2015, 2017 and 2019 runtimes with a single installer. So, it looks like the problem with your server is not related to the missing 2015 runtimes.

Is both the Addon Manager and the GSX menu missing from the Addons menu, or just one of them ?

Both.

Both.

Then it's a VC++ redistributables installation problem, that's for sure. Try to do this:

- uninstall the 2015 and 2017 versions.

- restart Windows

- reinstall the latest version again.

Thank you sir - I have a 2013. We talked about not having a 2015:

>>It seems you don't need the VS 2015, because you already installed the latest version<<

I have (2) 2017s:

...Redistributable (x64)
...Redistributable (x86)

Uninstall-reinstall both, or just one of the two?

I found at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads the (2) .exe  replacement files. NOTE: "Note Visual C++ 2015, 2017 and 2019 all share the same redistributable files.".

Also: "The following updates are the latest supported Visual C++ redistributable packages for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019. Included is a baseline version of the Universal C Runtime see MSDN for details.".

...I guess the (2) new install files will be 2019. Is this ok?

If so I need to know whether to uninstall/reinstall one or both of (x86) / (x64).

Finally, should I DL & install ARM64 as well or just the other two?

This is all a foreign language to me, far deeper than I thought the solution would be (grin). TKX!

Uninstall all the versions that looks like 2015 or 2017, restart Windows and reinstall the new unified one. Install everything, but NOT the ARM version.

Good morning!

I uninstalled both 2017s, rebooted, then installed the new 2019 (x64) & (x86). The Add-Remove now shows ++2015-2019 Redist (x64) & (x86).

BTW, I've still got ++2005, 2010, 2012 & 2013 in addition to 2015-2019.

No change in P3D, the items aren't in Add-ons. I tried uninstalling GSX & reinstalled v2, reboot, the items still aren't in the list. Maybe I should've installed v1, then v2. I didn't do that.

I don't know what else to try. Shame really, there's other projects I've got that won't work unless I've got GSX working properly.

Try to uninstall GSX, reply YES to the question "Do you want to remove the Addon Manager ?", then reinstall it again, and be sure you use only the current installer on our site, don't mix with older downloads.

I uninstalled and YES to remove the Addon-Manager. I then ran installers GSX and "Run", then GSX Level 2 and "Run" right off the site. I noticed the process quickly reinstalled the ..."(x86)Addon-Manager\Couatl\GSX...".

No change, GSX Couatl etc's not available under Addons.

I see you in the Trusted tab - you're not in Untrusted.

Might UTL have anything to do with all this? I saw in a linked post, someone mentioned UTL.

Remember those Client cmptrs we stopped talking about, all with GSX installed? I have to ask myself, what's the different between the GSX machine (where it's not working), and the Client machine (where it is working).

I don't know. I created things to where they'd be identical to every extent possible.

Missing/corrupted VC++ libraries, most likely.

Fixed.

I'd forgotten, a friend of mine told me to make a change in P3D awhile back having to do with the Addon Manager. I don't remember the reasoning behind it but the long/short of it is, it helps if Addon Manager's selected under Addon Scenery  :-\. I apologize for taking so much of your time & resource, really appreciate it!

I feel so dumb.
