Post by: rrwhaley on August 23, 2009, 07:17:03 pm
Hello FSDT,

Just a quick question, has the update for KORD been released yet?

No, not yet. They've promised to do it once the source data is out.
I want the not-so-new runway too.  ;)

Agreed. It would be cool if I didn't take a 20-30% frame hit too. The loss has been the reason I don't own more FSDT stuff. Absolutely great work but the loss of frames is a killer. And I have 12g of ram, a 3.2ghz chip and two 1g video cards. Anywhere else in the world and I get triple digit frames.

The grass texture from REX (Freebe) is much better.

I am beginning to question the sincerity of the lack of information about KORD for the update.  It has been in operation for a long time and years in the planning.  I have JFK, Zurich, ORD.  I am not buying any others until ORD is updated.

If you read what virtuali said you'd know the source data needed is aerial photos, which are not updated very often. Virtual Earth and Google Earth, for example, haven't published imagery with the new runway yet. So before you start making false accusations can you kindly show everyone that updated imagery even exists...to my knowledge it does not. I'd love to be proven wrong, though, so we can all enjoy an up-to-date KORD in fsx/fs9.

You're missing out on their best sceneries, but that is your choice. No skin off my back.  ::)

So as I understand this. Their will not be an update for ORD, for a long time. Even as the real operation exit for a while now, using new rwy, etc. ???

Somehow their has to be a better solution to this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is a simple solution: hire some company to shoot high resolution aerial imagery of the area and have it processed so fsdt can work it into an update. unless you have the funds to do so, just sit back and wait until the imagery shows up on the internet mapping services like we all do, hm?

Somehow their has to be a better solution to this!

Not unless you, or someone you know have access to the airport to take pictures.

http://www.bing.com/maps/   Zoom in on chicago, find the airport. Do bird's eye view on the area for the new runway rotate the camera so its facing south and theres the new runway in close up to get every little detail.  I dont know if anyone has found any thing on it but iam just trying to help. :)

We obviously know very well the MS Virtual Earth web site...

However, The top view is still not updated, which is the most needed one, to take precise measurement and georeferencing, and to blend it correctly the the rest of the ground scenery.

Hello All!

Can their be a temp solution, until a final version?

No because, if you read my message carefully, I've said we need to precisely georeference the image to have a correct positioning in flight sim so, having only a 3d image it's just not enough.

Also, it would not make any sense making a lot of useless work (that will have to be remade anyway), trying to recreate part of that image from scratch and seamlessly integrate with the existing one, when it will be much easier if the proper data is available.

I personally am tired of this.  KORD has been in full operation for a long time and no updates.  Don't have the data.  If this is the requirements for updates on airport construction then there won't be any new ones.  With TAS, Home Land Security, etc. I doubt that the data that is being required will be publicly available.  I can't believe that compromise can not be made without KORD being noticeably different then what would be produced with the data that seems to be required and may never be available.  This airport needs to be brought up to date.  It was out of date when created and purchased with updates expected.

Updates expected?  If they'd build the R/W version right the first time, we wouldn't need updates.   ;D

Wrong. It was released in March 2008. The new runways opened in November 2008.

and purchased with updates expected.

Wrong again. We always said from the very beginning, that we'll update it only after all the documentation (aerial pictures) would be available. We never said we'll update in any case, even with missing documentation.

Amended:  Released 8 mo prior to KORD new runways opened November 2008.

Nothing has been released, we never mentioned any release date, when we'll have something to announce, we'll do it.

We just can't do everything at once. KDFW has been released almost 2 years after the first time we talked about it, not because it took to years to make it, but because we were busy doing other things, and some people started to doubt we would release it, but it has come in the end, so will the KORD update.
