How would I go about modifying the default F/A-18 HUD into one that looks and works like this? http://www.anft.net/f-14/f14-detail-cp-d-hud.gif

You would have to edit XML and GAU files, which I myself, (an FS guru, some say) have not been able to do yet.

I don't see much difference with the F/A-18 gauge, care to explain better ?
Anyway not, you can't modify anything in that gauge, mostly because there's no a single XML line on it, it's all done in C++ so, the delivered gauge it's all compiled machine code, it would be almost impossible to change anything without having the source code.

This gauge would be for that freeware tomcat (Ive been helping since beta 1) having an F-14D HUD in an F-14D just seems better to me so I thought I'd ask around and see if anyone had any ideas on how to modify it.
thanks for the responses

WingMate, OK good to know. Thanks for helping Dino. Great job. ;D
-
If it cant be modified would anyone be able to help me create a new gauge?

Its not very different from the default one, whats the problem?

Dino said he was going for as close to 100% realism as he could get and I think that it would be a cool addition

Before you re-invent the wheel, Wingmate, have a scour around the freeware download sites for HUD gauges. Flightsim, Simviation, etc (Avsim's library is still down unfortunately). There might be something there that you can get permission to use or modify.
Just a thought, rather than starting from scratch.

I just finished searching again but unfourtunatlly I'm going to have to re-invent the wheel

Make it collimated and conformant, then ;)
