Title: Windows 64 bit and CPUs
Post by: wideloadwhitford on June 14, 2009, 04:38:13 am
My specs are below, The E7400 is 64bit.

I'm running FS9, and I get Out of Memory Errors with FS9 alot. (fs9.exe runs over 1.2 gigs)

If I switch to 64 bit XP, do you think I will get those errors anymore? I hear that it runs the memory better, and all 4 Gigs.

Id though id ask around, since you guys FS9 and X specific people  ;D

You wouldn't get any advantage, even if you switch to 64 bit OS, if you are using an application that is not aware of the additional memory. FS9.EXE needs to be patched, in order to allow it to see more than 2GB, try to search in forum to see how its done.

Maybe I can suggest something........Since i went to XPsp3, my FS9 glides like a hot knife through butter!

Just a suggestion....

Hey thanks, I was always doing the 3G switch and not this.

Basically, the only advantage of Vista 64, is that you don't need to do the 3GB switch on the OS, but you still have to patch FS9.EXE

However, there is some overhead running a 32 bit apps into a 64 bit OS, because every 32 bit API call the apps makes, needs to be translated at runtime by extending its parameters to 64 bit, with a process called "thunking" so, the same app might be more stable because of the extended memory available, but it will surely not run any faster, and possibly slower.

I am running Vista 64 bit 4GB for FS9. My FPS for FSDT JKFK are average 30 FPS with max AI traffic and max sliders. The same settings on my 2GB 32bit XP yield 15-20 FPS.

Mr. newmanix,

I was just there at KJFK this weekend.  I was PIC and landed on VOR/DME Rwy 22L (we went through a nasty storm on the west side of New Jersey on the way into Kennedy).  I didn't get a change to take any pictures but my passenger did; if he permits me, I'll upload it. ;)

Really nice video!  8)

And ... I use Vista-64 on a Quad Core Extreme with FSX and she runs real smooth.

Mr. newmanix,

Awesome! I visit KJFK twice a month to visit my GF. On my most recent flight, (UA B757WL LAX-JFK I always get the 10:30pm LAX departure - 0630am JFK arrival.

Anyway, even that early in the morning JFK is a total FRENZY with ATC and inbound traffic. So I was screwed in the middle seat on the last row which is hell!! Thus I couldn't video the approach. But on short final Canarsie 13L, just before commencing the right turn, ATC kept told us (channel 9) to reduce speed. We were already at 160KIAS!!! The Comair CRJ in front of us was going to slow and we were on his ass. Then ATC said "United Eighty-two go around now!!" Then those Pratt & Whitney's started screaming!! And up we went, we could see the CRJ touching down below us!! GOD!!! I wish I had the window seat!!! Would have been a great video. I was practically sitting on the lap of the poor Kiwi chick in the window seat!! And it was a great view of the airfield too!! I love JFK!!!

Hey, how long was your taxi to the active when you left?? My record is 2 hours 10 minutes with one engine running!! :-X

Upload your photo!

I was talking to a friend, and he told me that he gets 230 frames in FS9, is that even possible? What about your monitors refresh rate? Mine is 75 hertz and in FS i get a max a 75 when its 60 hertz then I get 60.

It seems my FS9 is lagging a bit at time with 64 bit XP
