Since I added GSX Level 2 Expansion, GSX no longer works. I have uninstalled GSX ,GSX level 2 and Addon manager and restarted the PC. I reinstalled with my Anti-Virus disabled. When I load the sim I have the new Jetways and Addon Manager shows GSX and GSX Level 2 as registered. In the drop down menu I can access Disable GSX, Settings, Customize Aircraft, Customize Airport Position but not the Show GSX Menu. When I load an airport I don't see the line at the top of the screen that indicates that GSX is getting the airport info. I did try one of the Trial airports (KSFO) to see if it was operating in that mode but that didn't work either. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thank you,
Bill

Are you sure that, by accessing the "Disable" option, you haven't accidentally disabled ? Because, your description of the problem is entirely compatible with having mistakenly Disabled GSX.
If that doesn't work, try a "Restart and rebuild airport cache" from the Couatl menu. You should see the cache regeneration process and, if everything goes well, the message the cache has been loaded at the end.
-
Thank you for the reply. I will certainly check that out. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and only one time did I select Disable/Enable to see what that would do. Since then I have uninstalled and reinstalled again. I did try the "Rebuild cache" once and I didn't see a message.
Bill
Edit: I tried again and no go. The GSX menu doesn't come up. When I select "Restart and rebuild the airport cache" the jetways go away and then come back but no message or indication of the rebuild. If I select Disable the jetways go away and when Enable is selected they come back.
Thanks for the help I know that your plate is very full now.
Best regards,
Bill
2nd Edit: I uninstalled again and removed Addon Manager. I reinstalled and now If I try to bring up the 'You Control' menu or 'By Pass You Control' menu I get a tone that sounds like a spring recoil, for lack of a better description. I don't know if this is progress or not. I'm hoping that this will tell you something about my problem. I hadn't previously had this sound.
-
Something new today. I started the sim and the GSX menu would open but it was just showing the Trial airports. It also indicated in Addon Manager that GSX and GSX Level 2 weren't registered. I enter my serial numbers and the registration was good. The GSX menu was still in Trial mode. I relocated to the trial airport (KSFO) and then the menu wouldn't open once again.
Bill

You must probably restart Couatl (or the sim) the first time after the activation.
-
I have the same problem there is no Gsx menu. No amount of restarts or reinstall fixes this.

That is what I have. If I uninstall everything, start the sim and then close the sim, on the next sim start I can get the Trial menu. I relocate to one of the Trial airports, KSFO in this case, I was able to bring up the GSX menu once and then it was back to no menu. I have tried just registering GSX but I can't get a menu that way either. Basically, I haven't been able to use GSX since I installed GSX Level 2.
Bill
Edit: I should add, when I get the Trial menu, if I register GSX at that point it stops working also.
-
Yesterday I had uninstalled and reinstall GSX Level 2. I started the flight sim and then closed it and restarted the sim again. I was asked if I wanted to activate GSX and I selected 'No'. I the opening screen I selected one of the Trial airports (KSFO) and the PMDG 737. At KFSO GSX Level 2 worked. I will go back and register GSX Level 2 and see if it still works. From my experience so far I expect it not to work. I will report back.

Today I tried the same steps only saying yes to the activation of GSX on startup. As I expected GSX did not work. At first GSX Level 2 showed that it was registered so after trying to bring up the menu and failing, I registered GSX. Everything still the same. I tried deactivating GSX Level 2 but still no menu. When I tried to deactivate GSX I received an error message and GSX wasn't deactivated. With GSX Level 2 supposedly deactivated the new jetways remained. I don't know if any of this helps. I just know that I haven't been able to use GSX in any mode but the Trial mode.

You don't say what happened next. Normally, you are supposed to see a message saying the activation was successful, or a message saying the activation wasn't successful, with some error code. Which one you saw ?
-
The activation was successful. Half way through the flight I also got the blurriness of the terrain that some others are post about. Related? I don't know.
Bill
-
If the activation is successful, it will work. Do you mean the activation doesn't stay for the next restart ?
-
No. The activation remains active (supposedly) but the menu doesn't come up. The only way GSX has worked now is in Trial mode. I'm sure that you are very busy so I will wait patiently for a resolution.
Thank you,
Bill

I don't think it might be possible a solution to a problem we cannot replicate. This simply cannot happen.
Are you sure you activate BOTH GSX and GSX Level 2 ?
-
>Are you sure you activate BOTH GSX and GSX Level 2 ?< Yes. Is there any way to just activate GSX to see if it works with out Level 2?
Bill
-
If you see the Trial airports menu everywhere, it means GSX is not active and still in Trial.
-
I saw in another thread that we need to have VC++2015 installed. I tried to do that and as the other poster pointed out, it won't install if a newer version is installed. I uninstalled VC++2017 and GSX installed VC++2015 (x86). If I try to reinstall VC++2017 after this, VC++2015 is removed. Trying to follow my previous steps I haven't been able to GSX to work even in Trial mode which I was able to do that one time.
Bill
Edit: Even with VC++2015 installed and not VC++2017 GSX didn't work.
-
According to your last report:
I started the sim and the GSX menu would open but it was just showing the Trial airports.
If GSX shows you the Trial airports list, it means it has started correctly so, you can ignore everything related to VC++ libraries, antivirus, etc. These would prevent GSX from starting, with no GSX menu at all.
Do you see GSX and GSX Level 2 listed as Active in the Addon Manager ?
-
Hi I have the same problem of menu not displaying.I can open the GSX menu from the addon drop down but when I click on the option to show GSX menu nothing happens.I also have the option mapped to a joystick button, still the same.I have restarted coatl on several occasions and ran live update.

Do you see the message "Airport cache loaded successfully" when the sim starts ? If not, try the "Restart and rebuild airport cache" option from the Couatl setting menu.
-
Hi again,Yes I get the message every time and have reloaded and rebuilt.I am about to do a restart the sim to see if that cures anything.
-
When I first start the sim I do not get the customise parking position option,I have to run the restart couatl and rebuild option for it to show up.
-

Through all of this I haven't seen "Airport cache loaded successfully", since I updated to GSX Level 2. I have selected "Restart and rebuild airport cache", no message there either. Right now I have uninstalled and reinstalled again and GSX, Couatl, and Addon Manager don't appear in the drop down menu at all.
Bill
-
I have selected "Restart and rebuild airport cache", no message there either.
This means you DID have Couatl working at this time!
Right now I have uninstalled and reinstalled again and GSX, Couatl, and Addon Manager don't appear in the drop down menu at all.
Try reinstalling after a Windows restart.

I did but when I ran the 'restart and rebuild' nothing changed and there was no message.
Right now I have uninstalled and reinstalled again and GSX, Couatl, and Addon Manager don't appear in the drop down menu at all.
Try reinstalling after a Windows restart.
I tried this. In the drop down menu in P3D Couatl, Addon Manager and GSX aren't listed. This is how it has been for a few re-installs. They seemed to install. No error messages. Couatl and FSDream Team GSX version 2.5.0.6 are listed in the Windows installed programs list. I have also tried installing Addon Manager on its' own. That didn't help either.
Bill
Edit: I should add that the FSDT GSX Control and FSDT Live Update icons are on my desktop after the install and FSDT GSX Control shows that the default jetways are disabled by GSX. So it seems that GSX is installed but nothing for Couatl, Addon Manager and GSX in the P3D drop down Addon Menu tab.
-
Is there a way to actually uninstall all of GSX so that I can start over? There always seems to be something left, like the serial numbers.
Bill

If you reply YES to the question "Do you want to remove the Addon Manager ?", it's almost a clean uninstall.
There always seems to be something left, like the serial numbers.
That's something we NEVER do, not even with the complete uninstall: we don't want have users risking losing their activation, just because they uninstall it. But a Serial Number won't stay in the registry, unless it passed the activation.
It's not possible to end up with a "wrong" Serial number in the registry, unless you place it on purpose, by manually editing the registry.
-
Thank you for the reply Umberto. I didn't think that the serial numbers were a problem themselves but instead an indication of parts of the program remaining, but you have now explained that. I have uninstalled several time, including removing the Addon Manager and now I see nothing of Addon Manager or GSX in the sim drop down menu. I will try it all again.
Bill
-
I uninstalled GSX, including Addon Manager. I disabled my AV program and restarted the PC. I then installed GSX Level 2 and restarted the PC. I started the sim and then exited and restarted the PC. I Reloaded P3Dv4.3 and still nothing in the Addon drop down menu for Addon Manager or GSX. I installed GSX version 2.5.0.6. Obviously I'm missing something. :-[

This thread here indicates all known causes for the missing menus:

I will check those out. Thank you.
Bill

I tried all of those steps and still no Addon Manager or GSX menus in the P3D Addon drop down menu.
Bill
-
try the Couatl test mode manually, by doing this:
- Open a command prompt ( Start->CMD->Enter ) and go to the Addon Manager\Couatl folder
- Type the following:
Couatl.exe --test
If there's a problem with missing system libraries, you might see some kind of error from Windows, saying something about it.
-
I just tried the couatl.exe --test and I didn't receive an error message.
Entered this -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Addon Manager\couatl>couatl.exe --test
Returned this -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Addon Manager\couatl>
Thanks again for your efforts.

This means there's nothing wrong with our software, and it could be started normally and returned with no errors. So, the problem must be the simulator itself.
Do you have SODE installed (you should, since it comes with GSX) ? Try to start the SODE Platform Manager, and see if it says something about possible errors.
-
I do have SODE installed. The log file is quite long so I won't attempt to post it here. A short way down in the log entries I see this -
[14:14:19.699] WARN SODE.XML : No XML Files found! Nothing added to Lists.
Further down this -
[14:14:19.727] ERROR SODE.FOLDERMANAGER : Failed to load xml file 'C:\Users\olddo\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\Orbx ObjectFlow 2\add-on.xml' (Code=17)
These entries are in red and obviously errors. There is an add-on.xml file in this folder.

Any more thoughts Umberto? It seems like many other folks are having a variety of problems with GSX Level 2. For myself, I can't get GSX or Level 2 to work at all now.

Not possible without checking your system. You haven't said which simulator you used.
It seems like many other folks are having a variety of problems with GSX Level 2.
All the reported problems have been fixed.
For myself, I can't get GSX or Level 2 to work at all now.
Yours is still a mistery, but I'm 100% it's NOT GSX. I'll contact you to have a Teamviewer session to check what's wrong with your system.
-
My system is Win 10 64 bit and I'm running P3Dv4.3.

I believe that the problem is solved. I don't know what was wrong initially with the menu not coming up when using SHT F12 but some where in all of my installing and uninstalling ADDON Manager was broken and ADDON Manager and GSX wheren't in the drop down menu at all. I believe there might have been a recommendation to download and install ADDON Manager on it's own, which I did. When I would uninstall GSX I was asked if I wanted ADDON Manager Removed and I would respond yes. Today I decided to uninstall and reinstall GSX again and after I did that I noticed in the list of programs, that ADDON Manager was still listed further down the list. I selected ADDON Manager to be uninstalled there and then reinstalled GSX Level 2. The result is that GSX seems to be working as advertised.
I will now happily go away and stop bothering you. :D A big thanks for all your efforts and a great addon.
