Hello everyone,
I have been working on my San Francisco Multiplayer Carrier Ops project for quite a while now, and am finally ready to release :)!
Now you can finally use the FSX Acceleration Carrier in multiplayer! This is a multiplayer mission which includes a fully functional Acceleration carrier outside the San Francisco Bay Area along with a custom carrier camera to watch takeoffs and landings. Fly multiplayer carrier ops with your friends and have fun!

This modified download link worked for me. Thanks - I'll check it out.

Great job on the mission! We made an ILS add-on for those who want carrier ILS capability for this mission. After downloading the file, just place it in the Microsoft/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/scenery folder and restart FSX. The ILS freq. is 111.55.

The ILS just for this mission?
Is there a way or a mod for FSX acceleration to achieve ILS on carrier traps.
I cant land worth a s**t without it,Im used to Janes f-18!
-
Yes, the ILS is just for THIS mission. The installed ILS is location dependent vs. object dependent.

Could you make an ILS for the carrier at Norfolk? It appears Friday at 12:30 at Norfolk Bay.

We had a lot of fun with your mission, and gave it our own little twist! Once again, well done.

Would those views work in single player? Or just multi, could I tranfer them over by using some file?

Oh wow! Great Job! You really can NOT see the deck until the end!!

Awesome work guys just one question will the CAT work for take off on this mission?

Yes I've tried it. Worked perfectly.

Cool I'll have to try it out tommorrow great work guys now if only TACAN could work on a moving carrier. 8)

Important notice:
I've taken the download down to refine the EULA, because I pointed to Striking Software (cuz I'm part of the team, tech support), so I felt that it would be okay to point there, but someone of a higher authority pointed out that I should refine the EULA to make sure we can't get into any legal issues and stuff like that. The dude who is helping with an installer is in a totally different time zone, and we have to refine it, so we can't really get together until next weekend, so yeah...

Nice video ;)! Edit the .flt file to change the time or something?

The carrier camera only will work while in the mission, not in single player.

Hey SUBS17, I remember you! You suggested something at FSDeveloper :P.
Yes, the catapult works nicely, glad you are looking forward to it ;).

Yeah I didn't manage to find the time to learn the SDK but its good to see someone got the MP working with ILS on the carrier. 8)

Thanks Orion. Looking forward to the re-release.

I have just checked the mission installers and I have a question, why does the installer ask for my serial NUMBER? ???
Its very odd since no other installer I have come across requires such information for MSFS.

lol wut?
Where'd you get an installer from?
It's not available at the moment, and only the beta version had the serial number (just so random people outside the beta don't download and install).
-
Man I just missed out! Are you going to bring it back?
-
Of course ;)!
Just have to have Steve recompile the installer with the new license agreement and re-upload.
Should be re-released on Sunday :).

That sounds cool I got the files from one of the links before it was pulled I have another question about the TACAN for the carrier I wonder if its possible to make the carrier move with the TACAN? What freedom do you guys have with that TACAN when you added it to the carrier will it allow a moving object broadcast or is it just stuck with the one position as this could also lead to tankers having TACAN and possibly even a datalink between aircraft if you have that sort of freedom with it.
-
None of the public released versions had the installer with the registration key, although I did post a link to a beta version at the FS Water Configurator forum (didn't post the key, as the beta testers had gotten them via a private board or email, so it was pointless if you weren't a tester).
???
Anyhow, what's TACAN :P? I really have no clue about carrier ops, but it's fun to play around with ;D.
If it's included with the Acceleration carrier, it's in my mission :).
-
Orion great job by the way. I'm a little late on it. I talked to you on sim-outhouse about promoting this for you. Great job bud.

You an re-promote it once I re-release it :P.

I hate to be a pest, but any idea on how long before the re-release? Also, does the ILS come with it or is that separate? I can't tell from the posts. Thanks.

About a year.
But seriously, I HATE it when people don't read! I said most likely next Sunday...
It has the IFLOLS 'meatball' thingy built in, but no ILS. Some dude up on page 1 made an ILS thingy for it though (thanks ;)!).

What can you say, people like your product!

I get an error when I try to enter 111.55 on the UFC using both Com 1 and 2 in manual mode.
-
I get a network disconect after 1 minute I'm not sure if its gamespy or the mission thats causing it. BTW have you guys tried adding 3d models of people on the deck I'm just curious if FSX will allow such objects to exist in MP.
-
Gotta be GameSpy :P.
I've tested my mission and it works for others. Try connecting directly to the host via IP address.
I haven't tried putting people on the deck (or getting the LSO guy to shout as you suggested at FSDevelopers a long time ago :P). I suppose I could try, it's just some object placement, right? I just need some people models to place in that case :P.
-
Try the default scenery people models and see what happens ideally you could if you ask around get crew on the deck(its worth trying out, just check if its visible to all players) . For hand signals check out the NATOPs manual they are in there for the Superhornet. I think ideally a carrier with crew, ai aircraft, ATC and LSO plus TACAN with ILS would be the ultimate and I haven't seen that since DiDs Superhornet. So you didn't try the LSO lines yet? That could possibly work since its running as a mission.
-
SUBS,
In regards to the ILS, try clicking on the "ILS" button located on your Up Front Panel. From there enter in the ILS freq. (111.55) and hit "ENT". After you have complete this, go to your right MFD that has your HSI shown and select the button next to ILS (TCN is highlighted by default). This should bring your needles up on your HUD. Please keep in mind that you will not be able to receive the ILS information if you are on the deck or in front of the carrier. The needles usually appear shortly after the "abeam" position in the carrier pattern. Hope this helps.
-
While that landing vid was nice- the rate of decent was WAY too high and the speed was high also. Very hard landing tho the approach did look uber nice and everything.
O yea also in real life the pilot would be able to see the carrier deck a lot earlier

I've tried hosting the mission in both MP and LAN and it stops after 30s.

I pushed ILS on UFC and then 111.55 and enter on UFC and it switches back to OF52.

Good catch. You are correct, the rate of decent was high due to the fact that the carrier is stationary and the was no wind (we were testing the ILS). The speed was slightly high, but remember, the pilot flys the proper AOA, not a speed. You're shooting for 8.1 (+/- 1.0) degrees, so the plane was actually on speed most of the time (however the jet had full fuel tanks and was heavy). As for the pilot seeing the deck... you maybe correct, however IF the LSO sees the plane before decision height, that is good enough. The landing light on the jet is much brighter than the lights of the landing area. So when the weather is like that, the LSO usually sees the jet before the pilot sees the runway. This is where the "paddles contact" call comes into play. If the pilot gets to 270 ft and hears paddles contact, he can continue with LSO guidance. Therefore there maybe situations where the pilot never sees the deck until he hits it. How bout that for a rush? :o
-
microbrewst, thanks for that explanation.
Q: What would be an approximate maximum carrier landing weight for the Hornet please? TIA.

This is the Hornet forum I realise but for those wanting something a little easier to land there is a very good, with proper AoA indexer freeware T-45C Goshawk available. More info at:
http://indiafoxtecho.blogspot.com/

A smaller (6Mb version - in the Goshawk download) of this larger (31Mb) version available at FileFront "How to Deck Land the Goshawk and how to do it in general (very general)" PDF is available at:
http://files.filefront.com/T45USNtrainCarrierFSXVidspdf/;13281972;/fileinfo.html
_______________________________
I stopped work on a "How to Deck Land a Hornet" when the 'very excellent' video about the same topic was made available recently. However sometime soon I'll put online a very large and very general version of this "How to Deck Land" PDF which will include the Skyhawk, Goshawk and Hornet etc.
-
Don't quote me here, but if I remember correctly the "Max Trap" for the legacy Hornet is 34,000 lbs. I may be off by a few, but that should be close. So, with a "full bag 'o gas", you are most likely over max trap as was the case in the video (hence the hard landing).
-
microbrewst, thanks. I'm guessing that a ball park rate of descent is about 800 feet per minute? However as you point out there are many variables.
-
I pushed ILS on UFC and then 111.55 and enter on UFC and it switches back to OF52.
SUBS,
Where were you in relation to the carrier when you entered the freq? Usually the system will switch to OFF if you either enter in the wrong freq, or if you are outside the operating envelope of the ILS system (not withing the azimuth and slope limitions of the system). As you probably already know, the navigation system automatically coverts the VOR/ILS freqs. to it's equivalent TACAN freq. (thus the 52). Make sure that "Y" is selected and not the "X" on the UFC after entering the freq. This should happen automatically though. Upon intial testing, I had similar problems, but then realized it was because I was either on the deck of the carrier, or outside of range or envelope of the ILS system. The only other thing that I can think of is file location. You might want to double check that you have placed the unzipped file in the Scenery/Global/scenery folder. Hopefully this works...if not, we'll take other avenues. Hope this helps.
-
I've tried Y band and entering behind the carrier it seems to me that this is quite unrealistic as I should be able to enter the freq at any distance or angle from the carrier IRL and it should stay on that freq. If it is switching over to the TACAN channel then perhaps the ILS freq should be changed to a TACAN cannel for the Carrier.
-
SUBS,
I am not saying that you need to be behind the carrier to enter the freq. However, in order to see the needles, you need to be behind the boat (or at least the back half). I usually pick the needles shortly after I am in the "abeam" position on the downwind, prior to the 180. The navigation system on this bird, defaults to OFF when it doesn't receive a signal (i.e. out of the range for a VOR, TCN or out of ranges, glidepath, or azimuth for ILS). To my knowledge, the navigation system on this hornet displays the TCN freq. on the UFC, regardless on whether a VOR, VORTAC or TAC freq. was entered.
As far as operations go with the ILS on this Multiplayer Carrier Mission, all you should have to do is
-Select the ILS button on the UFC
-Enter 111.55 on the number pad and press ENT
-Select ILS on the HSI
Assuming that you have done all this and the file was installed correctly, all you should have to do is take off from KSFO, head toward the carrier and start a normal carrier approach. Once you are within range of the ILS system the nav radio should automatically detect the signal and switch from off to on and the needles should automatically pop up on your HUD. That should be all that is required to make it work.
-
I found the problem it was in the wrong folder thanks for your help dude.
-
No problem man!
-
I'm going to assume that the mission is working if you can use the ILS to bring you to the carrier...
-
Well, I'm using the first mission that you posted last week. Assuming that there is no changes in the carrier position from last week's mission, then the ILS should bring you right to the 3 wire. Excellent job on the Multiplayer Carrier Mission BTW...
-
I'm going to assume that the mission is working if you can use the ILS to bring you to the carrier...
It stops working in MP after 20s because of gamespy eventhough I am the host so I am continuing in SP.
-
Im pretty new to MSFS, great mission!
I cant land at all without ILS in my HUD.My question is the LSO is pretty quite,am I using comms incorrectly!
thanks,
Mud

Thanks :)! If you're asking why the LSO is so quiet (I'm assuming you meant quiet, not quite), it's because there is none built in :P. I left that out so some dude in a session to be LSO if they want.

So it is GameSpy's fault :P.
-
I don't know it most likely is as today we had some problems with Gamespy just using the Acceleration hornet for a canyon race. It was working ok a while back but now its degraded to the point of being useless. Might be better off using hyperlobby if it were possible.

Hi all. Great MP mission. My buddy and I have been enjoying it. I've only played it with just him and I. One question. When my buddy traps and crashes, he only seems able to rejoin as observer. He can get in a jet, but I can't see him anymore. Is this just the way it is, or have I missed something in setup or what? Maybe the deal is....don't crash eh? Lol! Thanks pilots!

Nope, you haven't missed anything, it's just the way multiplayer missions work. They were originally designed for racing, and with that in mind, it's logical because you wouldn't want players to get behind if they join late. All I've done is just used the mission as a loophole to get proper AI into a multiplayer session.
And yes, it would help if you don't crash :P. Or at least turn crash detection off in the session :P.
EDIT: Oh, by the way, is anyone interested in an adaption of this mission for that Nimitz carrier that was released a while back? I was considering contacting the author regarding that, but don't know if anyone would be interested in using it in multiplayer.
-
INTRESTED!!! :)
-
I am definitely interested in a version of the mission using the Nimitz package, hopefully including an ILS ;D Thanks in advance!
Is anyone else seeing two aircraft carriers in the current mission? ??? They seem pretty close together. Is it possible to create an LSO view, or maybe even a PLAT view/camera?
Also, is anyone interested in a weekly MP sim session using this mission? Might need someone to call marshal if we get enough planes in the air ;)
-
Hi Orion
I would also be very interested in getting the nimitz used in a multiplayer mission
that would be amazing.!!! :)
-
Well, good enough :).
I'll set up a proper poll at a few forums over the weekend and see what the majority of simmers think ;).
capthaltli: It's supposed to be like that :P. Just go to the more detailed carrier with the lights and you'll be fine. The other carrier is part of default scenery. Also, there already is a deck camera. If I recall correctly, when you right click, you'll find it under "Carrier".
