Was the sim closing down, or it crashed too ?
If yes, such crashes are usually a result of the sim crashing on its own, for other reasons, and Couatl.exe crashing because it cannot get a proper "quit" message from the sim (which normally arrives when the sim exit cleanly), so it will crash too, because it cannot do some post-execution clean-up.
