Title: GSX disappears from addon menu **SOLVED**
Post by: Basman on April 24, 2015, 05:14:20 am
Hello,

I have tried to find a fix for this, but when ever I try to use GSX in game, the couatl menu disappears from the addon tab, and I am at a loss. I used the beta addon manager to install the files but it still vanishes.

Is there a way to fix this?

It's not very clear from your message if the Couatl menu disappears after having started correctly, or doesn't even load from the start, which is very different.

The Couatl menu disappears after having started correctly. I have all the options in the menu, Check live update, Key mapping, all of them, but when I bring up the Ctrl+F12 menu and select any request, nothing happens and the Couatl menu disappears from the addon tab.

Ok, that seems to be an incorrect configuration file, maybe of your airplane, or a problem of the scenery you are using.  Try to enable Logging in the "Troubleshooting" section of the GSX - Settings menu (before it crashes), restart FSX, and then (after it crashes), check your %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder for a Couatl.LOG file and Couatl.ERR file, and post their content.

As I've said, the problem might be caused by a wrong/corrupted airplane configuration. I see you are using a custom configuration for the PMDG 737, which is not needed since is internally supported by GSX

Use the "Reset" button in the Airplane configuration editor, Restart Couatl and see if the error goes away.

Another thing to check, is if you haven't created a key conflict yourself. In the KeyMapping menu, be sure the two hotkeys used by GSX are not set the same. By default, they are CTRL+Shift+F12 and Ctrl+F12

I did as you suggested, reset the Airplane and now the menu won't load when FSX-SE was relaunched.

It's not possible that just resetting the airplane configuration would make the menu (which menu ? the whole Couatl menu or the GSX entries ? ) disappear, something else must have happened.

Try to reinstall the Couatl Beta again.

Have you made changes to an aircraft.cfg?  The reason I bring it up is because when I installed the virtavia C-17, it made changes to my dll file.  I had a copy so all I did was replace it and it worked just fine.  You can also reinstall GSX and it will repair your dll file as well.  If you get an error pop up with a certain aircraft, then its the aircraft.cfg file which you made changes to it.  For example, the virtavia C-17, deactivating the textures will cause an error to pop for some reason.  Went back, activated them again and everything was back to normal.

Hope this help.

Uninstall and reply YES to the question "Do you want to remove the Couatl scripting engine ?" then reinstall and note if you are being asked permission to run it on the next FSX startup.

The one I just indicated in my previous message:

Quote

The uninstaller knows what to remove. Note that, it will not remove your personal settings so, if you want to do a *totally* clean uninstall, you should also remove the following folders:

%APPDATA%\Virtuali
%PROGRAMDATA\Virtuali

This will remove any eventual customization for airplanes and airports you might have made with GSX so, you might want to *move* the data (for example on your Desktop), instead of removing, in case you want them back.

Okay, stupid question, where is the uninstaller?

Every Windows program out there that comes with an Uninstaller, will appear in the "Programs and Features" section of the Windows Control Panel.

Okay, I did the full uninstall and said yes to "Do you want to remove the Couatl scripting engine ?". reinstalled did get the permission request to to run, and still no menu in the addon tab. I have to be missing something.

What do you mean with "No menu" ? Are you missing:

- The GSX entries of the "Couatl powered products" menu ?

OR

- The "Couatl powered products" menu ?

OR

- The "Couatl powered products" menu AND the "Addon Manager" menu ?

OR

- The whole "Addons" menu ?

When I start a flight with any aircraft in FSX SE and I click on the addon tab, only the fsuipc and the addon manager are in the tab, no Coualt menu

Check it's not the antivirus interfering:

- DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL with the antivirus entirely OFF

- Uninstall GSX. Reply YES when asked if you want to remove the Addon Manager and the Couatl Engine. Reply YES to both questions.

- TURN OFF your antivirus. Don't just exit from its interface, but turn off the real time protection. Actual wording changes between products, however, it's the option to scan every file that gets open in real time, without user intervention.

- Reinstall GSX with the Antivirus TURNED OFF. Don't launch FSX yet.

- Configure the antivirus to exclude the following files from scanning:

YourFSXFolder\bglmanx.dll
YourFSXFolder\fsdreamteam\Couatl\couatl.exe

YourFSXFolder it's usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, if you installed it in the default folder.

- Now you can turn the antivirus back on, and launch FSX.

- Check you are seeing BOTH the "Addon Manager" menu AND the "Couatl powered products" menu under the "Addons" menu

I don't have any virus protection at this time, i have yet to install one.

open the Notepad and type the following on a new blank file:

logFile=couatl.log

(please note logFile is written beginning with a lower case l and a capital F )

Save the file as couatl.ini in the %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder, run FSX and then exit after it finished loading. Check your %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder and if there's a Couatl.LOG file there, post its content.

I don't have an %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder

It's not possible you don't have one, because it's created automatically by the GSX installer, with the default preferences so, regardless if the Couatl menu runs or not, if you installed GSX, you must have it.

Your log file seems to indicate you haven't installed GSX or any other FSDT product, but just the Stand-Alone Addon Manager so, it's entirely normal you won't see the Couatl menu, if there's no software requesting it.

When you Uninstalled everything, and replied YES to the question "Do you want to remove the Couatl script engine ?", you should have reinstalled everything (you got a warning about it too), using their full installers, not just the Stand-Alone Addon Manager. The Stand-Alone Addon Manager Public Beta should be the last step, if you want to use the Beta, but only after reinstalling everything.

Now it seems you tried to reinstall with FSX still running, or you just were too quick to launch the installer without giving enough time for FSX to close all files.

A Windows restart, following by installing GSX should fix this.
