Title: Couatl is starting but then disappears
Post by: CMChristian on November 15, 2017, 06:12:43 pm
Hello together,

i love to use the GSX but after months it suddenly disappears from the addon menu. and i've made no changes to the system!
strange!
so i'm not really amused, because GSX  brings time after time a lot of problems to my flight computer .......
Need really help....working since one week to get this program working but no chance....

I've tried all the stuff .......
- no Firewall active and if......the files couatl.exe and bglanx.dll are extra out of the list to scan.

What GSX do on my computer

Starting up FSX and couatl.exe is loading normally.....i can see it in the task manager
Then choosing any aircraft (couatl still alive)
then choosing airport (couatl is still alive)
after choosing daytime ..... couatl disappears from the list in the task manager

tried also to start the fsx with the default settings "friday harbour" and the trike i can see couatl under the addon menu for 15 seconds
and the the fsx stops for 10 seconds and again it disappears from the addonlist....

i don't know what i can do to get this gsx running......

Thanks for your help ;-)

Christian

Have you installed the latest Windows Insider Preview Beta ? If yes, it's a confirmed issue, which doesn't happen with the standard version, so there's no fix at this time, other than reversing to the latest official version.

Hi Umberto,

thanks for your info......and your work

no i do not have the Windows Insider Preview Beta.
I'm using Windows 7 and i think this windows preview is for win10.

what i've done:
-i deleted/deinstalled all gsx relevant components.
-cleaned the computer (special search programs)
-downloaded the latest full gsx installer
-with msconfig booted the secure windows 7 (no antivirus or anything eldse)
-installed gsx and back to the normal windows
-then problems with msvcp140.dll
-after that i've installed microsoft visual c++ 2015 (64) and (86)
-no more problem messages

it seems all running
-starting fsx
-couatl.exe in task manager is starting
-with the easiest default aircraft and at any default airport starting fsx
-couatl.exe still in the task manager during loading scenery...ok
-then i can see couatl and gsx under addon menu...looks good
-but after 10 seconds it disappears from the addon menu and also coatl disappears from the task manager.

under event manager for the applications i can find this error:

Faulting application name: couatl.exe, version: 3.2.0.3874, time stamp: 0x5a04bc0d
Faulting module name: couatl.exe, version: 3.2.0.3874, time stamp: 0x5a04bc0d

See if you have any the following files:

%APPDATA%\Virtuali\Couatl.err
%APPDATA%\Virtuali\Couatl.log

If yes, post them here. ZIP them and Attach them to a post, do not copy their content in a post.

no sorry there are no files like this.....

It means the program hasn't even started, which usually is caused by the antivirus. Are you SURE you excluded the whole Addon Manager folder from scanning ? Please check again.

Hi Umberto,

no Antivirus and AddonManager excluded

The newest Info: It seem that GSX is running but...
-there are no vehicles
-the sound is on and works, hearing boarding and all commands
-pushback works as it should
-and if choose "just wrap me there" i find the plane anywhere near the airport in the gras
and last time in the air but not at the choosen gate or parking position"

then i made the update --- nothing new

strange....never happend before ;-)

thanks

From your last report, it seems that something has changed in your system so, the program that initially seemed it didn't start, is now working.

It's not clear what do you mean with "pushback works as it should" and "there are no vehicles". Does it mean you have the pushback fully working, but with invisible vehicles ?

Hi Umberto,

yes that's correct.
Pushback and sounds are working but the vehicles are not visible.

Hi Umberto,

still waiting for your solution.
Would be great, because i can hardly wait to enjoy GSX again with the vehicles visible. ;-)
Thanks

Pushback and sounds are working but the vehicles are not visible.

This clearly indicates the problem doesn't have anything to do with GSX (which is running normally), but it's a problem with your graphic settings, which are preventing the vehicles to be seen. Most likely, you applied an undocumented tweak to your FSX.CFG that doesn't work with your system.

See this thread here, which explains how to reset your FSX.CFG file:

Hi Umberto,

hope you're well

Now i'm really confused.
Since the last messages i solved the problem and GSX was running well.

Then i made the update like the message in fsx said. After the update, GSX is creating problems again and is not working anymore.
It's after every update.

So now i've tried all the ways i have seen in the forum but nothing worked.
Deinstalled the GSX
Then used a full cleaner so that i can be sure that there are no parts anymore
All Antivirus Programs off.
Downloaded both: current full installer and the add on manager
Installed both.
Then FSX asked me if i trust virtuali (couatl and then bglmanx) and i clicked on yes everytime.

Then i can see in the taskmanager that couatl scipt engine is running
I load an airplane an start FSX
FSX is loading the scenery
During loadingprocess of the scenery i always can see that couatl script engine disappears from the taskmanager
in FSX i can see the add on manager but no couatl or GSX menu.

I've tried so many things and now i'm at the end of my knowledge.

There is no couatl error file under %appdata%

but under the event viewer in windows administrativ tools i can always find the following error events:

Faulting application name: couatl.exe, version: 3.2.0.3894, time stamp: 0x5a37ed5a
Faulting module name: couatl.exe, version: 3.2.0.3894, time stamp: 0x5a37ed5a

Which FSX version you use ? Have you configured the antivirus to exclude the whole Addon Manager program from scanning ?

Hi Umberto,

I'm using FSX Acceleration SP2
Windows 7 Home Premium

I'm not using a firewall or antivirus
I've also tried to install GSX in the safe boot mode (no internet no antivirus...)
today i've again downloaded GSX Full installer
Deleted all the GSX
CCleaner for really cleaning
Then installed GSX_fsx_setup.exe as administrator
GSX installed automatically into C:\Program Files (x86)\Addon Manager

Then I've started FSX
Asking me  if i trust Couatl and Addon manager..... both Yes
Can see Couatl in the task manager...... is running
Loading any default or PMDG737 and press "start"
FSX loading normally
Then i can see Couatl and GSX and Addon manager lines in the Menu.....looks good
But everytime after approximately 10 to 17 seconds the couatl and gsx lines disappears
only addonmanager line is still useable

If it helps
In the Windows Event Viewer (WindowsLogs / Applications)
i can find the error of couatl.exe and the information about the APPCRASH couatl

I've searched for the couatl.log and couatl.err under %appdata%, but
there is no one of these two files.
only updatecache file and couatladdons and keymapping

Thanks in advance for your help

I'm sorry, but I can only repeat and confirm this cannot be replicated in any way. The only possible issue is the Live Update being prevented to download something, which is always caused by an antivirus or a firewall blocking the download.

Try to download the Stand-Alone Addon Manager instead. This is always updated with the latest files which are online so, it won't be affected by a firewall or antivirus mistakenly blocking the download, since the file it will install are the same to the ones which were supposed to be  downloaded by the Live Update.

This won't really fix the problem, since you want to fix your firewall/antivirus issue but, at least, if the Stand-Alone Addon Manager works, you would know for sure the problem was the Live Update being prevented to do its job entirely.

Report:

unistalled GSX and AddonManager and cleaned via ccleaner all entries
downloaded Standalone Addon Manager
installed Standalone Addon Manager

after starting FSX i can see under the add-ons  menu
couatl settings
couatl live update
addon manager

and coutl is stable
no GSX (normal)

made FSDT live update and nothing changed

so i started in the windows safe mode (only basic programs, network, but no antivirus no firewall)
downloaded GSX full installer again
and installed GSX in the windows safe mode (no firewall, no antivirus...)
changed to normal windows mode, started fsx, and the same happens again

couatl is running until loading the scenery and then disappeared from taskmanager or add-ons menu

ok....but now we know fsx is loading couatl and the bglmanx.dll, but the problems are starting if gsx is installed....hmmmm?

Maybe some missing Microsoft Visual C++ or other Microsoft files
Which files of  Microsoft  e.g. KB******* or Visual C++ are necessary?
Or are there special settings in the FSX?

What if install a older versionĀ“of gsx? would this be useful? or would this not working in general?
Is there a file or a log (there is no couatl.LOG under %appdata%virtuali on my computer) or could there be a describing eventfile
to narrow down the problem?

...... i would love to use GSX in FSX again..... ;-)

This means there are no issues with the system libraries.

Is there a file or a log (there is no couatl.LOG under %appdata%virtuali on my computer)

The Couatl.LOG will be created only if you enable logging from the Troubleshooting section of the GSX Settings page. If GSX disappears before you are able to access its settings, you can enable logging manually this way:

open the Notepad and type the following on a new blank file:

logFile=couatl.log

(please note logFile is written beginning with a lower case l and a capital F )

Save the file as couatl.ini in the %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder, run FSX and then exit after it finished loading. Check your %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder and if there's a Couatl.LOG file there, post its content.

Hi Umberto,

first: it works!!! (on testing)

what i've done:
created the couatl.ini file, like you said
then startet fsx with only couatl installed (no gsx installed)
in %appdata%roaming/virtuali a LOG file was created automatically after starting fsx the next time.
then i installed the last GSX with the full installer (like i've done all the time)
started FSX and boooom GSX is alive again..... :-)

so i'm testing now if it's stable, but it looks like

my opinion:
all the time when i installed gsx full installer or stand alone manager.....there was no couatl.log or *.ini created (i know in the gsx-settings i've to activate)
maybe the couatl.ini and couatl.log are necessary for a running GSX on my system,
because the only thing i've changed was to put in this .ini file.

the routine of success i think:
uninstalled all the GSX and Stand-alone Addon Manager
shut down all antivirus and possible firewalls or download in the windows safety mode
downloaded the newest Stand-alone addon Manager and installed
started fsx and checked if couatl is stable in the add-ons menu (then closed fsx)
then created the couatl.ini
started fsx and checked again if couatl is stable in the add-ons menu of my FSX  (then closed FSX)
then downloaded and installed the newest gsx full installer (right mouseclick installed as admin)
and started fsx and now it seems to work :-)

thanks Umberto for your help. i'm really happy and hope it will be stable ;-)

The Couatl.log file is created automatically by GSX (more precisely, by Couatl) ONLY after editing the .INI file to enable it, but if there's no Couatl.INI, no Couatl.LOG will be created, but none of them are required.

It must be some kind of coincidence, but I assure you they are not required and the issue was something else.
