Title: NEW HIGH RESOLUTION PHOTOREAL SCENERY OF FT LAUDERDALE FOR FSX
Post by: andrewblan on August 15, 2009, 12:32:41 am
Hey everyone.

I'm just announcing a brand new (about to be) released addon for FSX by Flight Sim Designs, Fort Lauderdale X! This is a high resolution 30cm/px photoreal scenery that covers 10 miles wide and 35 miles long of FT Lauderdale, FL. We are hoping to release this by Monday, so check back often. I will post the website in the coming day.

Attached are screenshots, enjoy!

Looks good Andrew. I hope that it looks like it has more contrast in the sim. Here is a sample from my project taken from FSX in Ft. Lauderdale. I color corrected the contrast and brightness a little before I compiled it so that it did look as washed out as my original source file. Have a look.

When do you think your site will be up?

...photoreal scenery that covers 10 miles wide and 35 miles long...

That seems like an awfully small coverage area, 10 miles is almost nothing from the air.  Megascenery Earth is a 50 mile square, and you can see from one side to the other.

Wideloadwhitford, the pics I posted are Ft.Lauderdale phototiles I made myself. I just posted those to see if the original poster was going to color balance and color correct his tiles before he compiled them, just wanted him to see the difference since his seemed a little washout looking.

BTW, I bought the MegaSceneryEarth Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. They are horrible, don't waste the money. They are not color balanced or corrected and have lots of clouds on the ground. Probably the worst payware photoscenery I have ever seen. That was what prompted me to make my own since it seemed no other developer would do it. The only good part about the MegaSceneryEarth tiles is that the night textures look pretty good since you cant see the clouds on the ground, but since I fly mostly in the day time I never use them.

Hey,
Website will be up in an hour.

If you notice in the middle of the shot there are clouds, which come out like big white splotches in FSX. My scenery is cloud free, cheap (grand opening price of 12 dollars) and you get a lot for your money (over 3 gigs of 30cm/px high res scenery). I think that is a much better deal than others. Also, there will be updates, which include night textures, added areas and more. That is all free to buyers. We will also expand the area another 25 miles or so each in future updates.

Also, this will not be for fs9. The graphics engine couldn't handle it lol  ;).

I will post when website is up and you can buy it.

Thanks for everyone interest,

Andrew

Thanks, after I posted the links I went on the site and saw that their KMSY looks terrible. Well I still likes yours better than the first dude, because it seems like it has a haze in it.

The haze is caused by Real Environment Extreme, not the textures. I have color corrected the tiles today and am creating the installer now. The website is almost up, where you can purchase the scenery.

I am also including the everglades, which I am creating now, so that it will extend about 50 sq miles as requested. The price will still be
$12.00.

Well, its going to be more of the border where the everglades meets the cities.

I just have a few questions, will the ground scenery be compatible with the Autogen on the ground, as in lined up correctly? Also it says night textures, so the version that your releasing WILL NOT have night textures as it will come at a later date in a free update?

The autogen would actually hurt you framerate and experience, since the autogen wont match the houses. There will be photoreal night textues, but will come in a later update, I am ordering them as we speak.

Thanks

Sounds good, Alot of developers get this aspect wrong, either too dark or brownish. Im looking forward to a High Res picture. From an external link.

BTW We are having difficulties with the website, it will be up tonight. Also, the scenery is availible for x-plane, if anyone is interested. If you have any questions that you dont want to ask on the forums, email us at support@flightsimdesigns.com.

If you buy the FSX and Xplane versions together, you get 25% off the order total.

Thanks

Hey everyone,

If you look at our website forums, Johannes wrote a nice comment about both FSDT's KFLL and FLX. I just thought I might share.

"Installation went off without a hitch and I started with the Cub at KFLL (FSDT, of course) for a first gentle sightseeing flight, discovering that it blends perfectly with your scenery. Due to the enhanced area of Version 2 you can`t see instantly the borders of the scenery so the first look was very impressive!
Gaining slowly height (Hey, it was the CUB... ) the view outside becomes more and more crisp and sharp. and exactly as you mentioned in the other forum: No clouds on the wallpaper. Looks stunning. 8-)
My next bold step was to fire up the Commander 115 and barrel along the Everglades, which look broadly similar to our Northern German Wadden Sea (except you have more bushes in the mud  ). Guess my pleasant surprise noticing that the look outside remained as clear as before. Even with 160 KIAS no blurries (OK, guys, heavily banking and panning around will squish up every scenery... ) and actually with my mediocre system fps also kept at about 23 (locked). Only in the direct surrounding of KFLL they decreased as expected, because of the detailed airport-scenery.
The blending to default scenery, respectively GEX in my case, is visible but not annoying, the only rather abrupt transition is the colour of the water off the coast. But I think this is based to the unrealistic water colours of FSX and for me it means I eventually have to install the FS Water Configurator, which I intended to do a long time ago.
I really like this place now and it will more often be my starting point for "short" hops to the Caribean Islands or VFR-flights to the Central Florida GA airports.
Hopefully I was not speaking too verbosely just to say: Thanks! for this one. I´m really looking forward for the night textures and your next upcoming sceneries.
Keep it up!

Johannes"
