Helipad
« on: December 02, 2013, 06:18:47 pm »
Hi there,

I am using the FSX version of KLAX V2 and I wonder why there is no helipad at the airport as in real life.

Cheers
Nik

Well, I guess that's something that hasn't been modeled. It's probably not the only one.

I would call it a bug if we indicated in the site or in the manual an helipad was *supposed* to be there, but it's not. Since this is not the case, it's more like something that we might consider adding in the future.

Nik,
Are there actually supposed to be any helipad(s) at KLAX ?

I've been looking on google maps but couldn't see any. The nearest ones seem to be in Beverly Hills.

Anyway, have you tried HeliTraffic 2009 by Flight 1 ?
It's not too expensive, it adds AI helicopters, and you can also add helipads wherever you want using this program.
Great little addon if you want helicopter traffic around KLAX or any other airport.

There are a few videos on YouTube that show helicopters landing on top of the terminal or a parking garage very near to the Bradley International terminal. However, the latest Google Earth photo shows that painted H very clearly X'ed out, and I can't find any others on the airport. Also, the latest official FAA airport diagram doesn't indicate any heliports at KLAX (compared to 5 at KJFK).

Hey you are right, there is still one on the corner of the roof near World Way S / West Way.

I looked up the official 2013 Rules and Regulations for LAX, which are available at http://www.lawa.org/WorkArea/linkit.aspx?LinkIdentifier=ID&ItemID=862. Section 3 deals with Aircraft Operations, and Section 23 says it pretty clearly: Heliport H3 Currently Not Available for Use.

I don't know exactly when the helipad was deactivated, but the same section of the 2010 Rules and Regulations included the following information...
a. The heliport (H3) located at 401 World Way South, atop Parking Structure #4, consists of one landing and takeoff pad (weight restriction 15,000 pounds) and four parking procedures. Elevation of the heliport is 152 feet MSL. Standard operating procedures for the heliport will be as follows:  (There are several specific rules listed here.)
