I just got my new widescreen LCD 22". Now I need your advice on this. At the moment I am running my FS9 on 1440*900 pixels with good FPS never drop bellow 20. But If I change the resolution to my native screen 1680*1050 the FPS will drop to 8-10 FPS and with full clouds from AS it will run on 2-5 FPS. I tested all this using Overland bird.

Could someone explain it to me about this issue and also the fix for this please? I really don't understand my the frame drop so much. FYI I am suing E8400, 4GB DDR2 and 8800 GTS 320MB and the latest driver Nforce 175.16 in Vista 32bit.

Thanks a million.

That's probably most likely due to your video memory as you go higher in resolutions the faster and more memory the video card needs to have the 8800gts that you have has only 320 its a good card but the memory needs to be higher if you want higher resolutions.

Thanks for the answer.

I am planning to get 9800GTX since the price is dropping like crazy. Or should I get GTX260?

HI hendrik that's a good question :) here's a review of the gtx260 with fsx over at toms hardware. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-gtx-280,1953-15.html remember the drivers are not that great right now so far from the reviews I have seen, then you have the 9800gtx price drop, it is very nice card and a steal at its current low price.

The gtx260 is about $400 usd and up, at around 400 dollars usd you can get a GeForce 9800 GX2 with 1gb of memory no need for sli since you got 2 cards in one slot, and it a very strong video card. it really depends are your budget and if your power supply can handle it, and to make it even more crazy you have the new ati cards at a great price. http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3341 you really gotta love competition :D

Cesar,

Thanks for all the input. I have read all those benchmark and to be honest, DO NOT KNOW what to buy. My mobo now is P35 so CF with ATI is the only option to run Dual Video Card. PC hardware nowadays is so confusing, back in the old days I did not need to upgrade every year I could wait for 2-3 years. Now every 6 months they have something new!!!

Either way running SLI/ CF  or not I need to buy a new PSU, any recommendation?
