Changing Virus scanners & ptotecting bglman. **SOLVED**
christiaan:
Is there a way that the "excluded" blgman can be protected is one wants to change to another virus scanner. For example moving the
file to another location, eg USB stick and the placing back via My Documents if this folder is temporary excluded from the scan.
Soon I shall be starting, for the very first time, installing the FSX FSDT sceneries, are there any other files that need to be "excluded"during a scan.
I read about Coulti, is this placed with blgman in the main FSX folder as I believe FSX has no Module folder unlike FS9.

You are making it more complex than it really is.
Simply switch to another antivirus, it's certain you'll have to exclude the files from scanning, only a few antivirus require this. If you find the new antivirus requires this, as explained in all threads related to antivirus config:
- TURN OFF your antivirus. Don't just exit from its interface, but turn off the real time protection. Actual wording changes between products, however, it's the option to scan every file that gets open in real time, without user intervention.
- Install the Stand-Alone Addon Manager with the Antivirus TURNED OFF. Don't launch FSX yet.
- Configure the antivirus to exclude the following files from scanning:
YourFSXFolder\bglmanx.dll
YourFSXFolder\fsdreamteam\Couatl\couatl.exe
YourFSXFolder it's usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, if you installed it in the default folder.
- Now you can turn the antivirus back on, and launch FSX.
- Check you are seeing BOTH the "Addon Manager" menu AND the "Couatl powered products" menu under the "Addons" menu.

Thanks for your quick reply.
A couple of questions, I want to install with the present scanner and sometime in the near future (due to several reasons) to another scanner AVG Free 2011.
Will the new scanner not remove the files before I have a chance to do what you suggested.
When you say turn off the virus scanner I presume you mean only the real time protection (heuristic) which is what I did on my old computer for FS2004
I am now on a new PC so that I can also enjoy your FSX airports.
Thanks for your patience.

The procedure suggested will work regardless of the antivirus. Not all antivirus needs it, but it won't do any harm doing this anyway.

When I've said "Don't just exit from its interface, but turn off the real time protection", I meant "turn off real-time protection", which can be named differently depending on the product, but it's more than just turning off heuristic, which is usually a sub-option of the real-time protection features.
If you want a good free antivirus, I suggest the Microsoft Security Essentials, which is always kept updated, it's very easy to use, and doesn't mistakenly generate false positives with our software, which means it doesn't need any special configuration, and doesn't need to be turned off when installing our software.

Thanks for your reply and did as suggested.
Installed Microsoft Security Essentials today, also got an e-mail with my activation keys.
Just have to check on the forums how I have to use them
