Bad jetway data' warning
« on: August 20, 2024, 08:04:19 pm »
I am a gsx pro user in msfs 2020. The jetway is not operating at the arrival airport. I get a 'Bad jetway data' warning. What's the problem? It started happening after the last update. It takes away all the pleasure of flying. Please help.  :(

In my experience it was due to a customisation file being bad after possibly an update. For now rename the original file so that it doesn't get picked up my GSX (add any number of characters before the airport code), then restart Couatl at the apirport and go through the gates copying the data for one gate into the new file, restarting Couatl each time to reload the new file and check its valid. When you hit the error again it means that gate data might be corrupt.

Witch airport was the arrival airport? Default or add-on airport? Did you also try the MSFS groundservice to connect the jetway?

Hi folks,
more and more airports (p3dv5) show this, add-on airports and stock airports.
How to fix this in one shot? Which one file is corrupt?
What does FSDT say to this? Why don't they fix this?

Thx in advance,
Pecker

You are confusing the message with the problem.

The problem doesn't have anything to do with GSX, which simply got this error from Simconnect when it asked a list of jetways on the airport, and this would have happened before as well, the ONLY difference is that, in previous versions, you had to enable GSX logs and check the log to see the warning, so the only thing you saw were jetways that didn't work, assuming it was a GSX bug.

In order to prevent users to be mislead assuming it's a GSX bug, and provide some feedback about the problem that would possibly lead to investigate it ( a scenery conflict could cause this, but also even a *single* missing jetway in the scenery will also cause it), and of course check (in MSFS 2020) that GSX replacement jetways has been excluded for that airport, we moved the message up in the GSX menu, so you won't need to enable logging to know there's a problem, and might start looking into it.

I'll clarify again: in MSFS, GSX doesn't have ANY control over jetway, doesn't affect jetways, doesn't move jetways, doesn't control them. The ONLY interaction GSX has with jetways is:

- Make a Simconnect call to know where they are.

- Send the standard key event to toggle them.

When you see the "Bad jetway data", it's JUST the result of the Simconnect call. GSX cannot possibly know WHY the sim said you have bad jetway data on any given airport, that's the only thing we get from the sim, which is a translation for the -99 error that, according to the SDK, means "Internal Error", with no other explanations.

Basically,  don't shoot the messenger (GSX).

Hi, I also have this happening and I fully agree with Umberto that GSX is not the problem!

After some tests I concluded that in my case the issue seems to be caused by interference between 3rd party add-on airports  and default MSFS2020 airports, manifesting itself by "overlapping" parking spots (see attached image). Obviously this is more likely to happen where the default airports are not / or can not be deleted before installing the same airport from a 3rd party developer. Apparently the interference corrupts the jetway data and then of course GSX reports "Bad Jetway Data". In some cases I have found it can be solved by: 1. deleting the 3rd party airport, 2. restarting the Sim and spawning your aircraft at the default airport (btw then GSX works perfectly again, using its own jetways ;)), 3. re-installing the 3rd party airport and re-spawning your aircraft at the 3rd party airport. However, in some cases, eg. at TFFR (default airport can't be deleted, 3rd party airport part of Caribbean Pack 3) it don't work consistently, the next time I go there the overlapping parking spots are back, causing "Bad Jetway Data" ... In other cases, eg. at Bari (LIBD) it remained fixed after applying above approach!

hope this helps, best regards
