Pop:
reinstalled FSX and the ADD ons- got it in gear now! even with UTX all runs great!

POP, OK thanks. I'll give Win7 FSX a retry with Nowra scenery. Thanks. The original problem as described on the link was so baffling - and frustrating.  ;D
