The Live update is now a separate program on your Desktop.
The main advantage compared to the old system, is the new Live Update can update *everything* in a single run, while the old one could only update the Python program code that runs GSX or the sceneries, but not executables (.exe and .dll), .BGLs or objects models and textures. That's why the new Live Update runs outside the sim.
What's missing right now, is the *notification* system that tells you there's an update available. This will be added, of course, but it's not there yet on the new system, so you should run the FSDT Live Udpate from the Desktop every now and then, to be sure you are updated. It will also run automatically each time you run any of the FSDT installers.
