It's possible this program starts the sim using a different/earlier FSX.CFG, instead of the one which was modified by the GSX installer, to add the required SimobjectPaths line ?

What you call "crash", which is not a crash, but a proper error message with a proper diagnostic, indicates the program couldn't find the objects it had to create, and this is surely caused by the sim using the wrong FSX.CFG instead of the one which was modified by the GSX installer.
