Folks,

Have you updated the Updater to a new version than includes the option to exclude ADE files from the updating process?

Thanks

The FSDT Live Update always protected the AFCAD, by making a backup of it. And, the version which is online since June 10th, allows you do exclude a whole folder from being updated:

However, we strongly suggest NOT to use it, and let update the AFCAD files too, because we keep updating them, so if you keep restoring your own version, you will keep reintroducing issues, because you are not starting from our latest version.

If I understand this correctly, those of us who customize our AFCADS, will have to re-customize each AFCAD everytime LiveUpdate is run, or go through each FSDT scenery and reinstall the backup file?

That's correct according to Umberto, however it's totally inconvenient for us, customers. Okey then, you should live with it

If we updated the AFCAD, it means there was a REASON for it so, if you made changes based on an outdated version of the file, you might reintroduce bugs that we fixed.

THAT'S why we make a backup of your file: so you will KNOW we updated the AFCAD, so you might take the proper action, which would be taking your changes, and apply them to the updated version of our file, which can surely be made, if you know what you are doing, by decompiling both files with ADE into XML, compare the XML files, check the variations, and apply your changes. Or, you could just ignore our fixes, and simply restore your .BGL, but it would be your choice, and by doing a backup, you will notice something happened, so you could DECIDE which action to take.

Instead, if we did the wrong thing, allowing you to *always* and *automatically* skip the AFCAD from being updated, you will never know it was updated, so you'll continue to stay forever with a version that might have issues.

But as explained in the linked thread, using the "dontupdate" file method, if you REALLY want to do this, that's precisely what the "dontupdate" file will do: preventing the whole folder from being updated automatically, so you will not have to go through the hassle of having to restore from the backup. Having a "dontupdate" file in that folder, will be hopefully visible enough, in case you'll wonder why a scenery is not updating, hopefully you'll remember you created it yourself...
