Problem after update
« on: June 20, 2016, 03:24:34 pm »
Hi guys,

I've been using GSX to full satisfaction for a few months now. Few days ago I was prompted to update the add-on manager. So I did.
Unfortunately thing got messy from there. I tried updating the add-on manager using updater in the GSX-folder.
It succceeded, so it seemed, but after starting FSX:SE I got an error message.

After that, I tried the stand-alone updater from the website.

But after running that stand-alone executable I am prompted to manually browse to the FSX:SE folder (all the sims are grayed out and 'not found').

FSX:SE is installed in the default location and GSX was installed few montsh ago withou any problems. It appears that the installation
path is messed up. Browsing manually doesn't solve anything though, when I select the correct folder the installers comes back with
a message that the sim is not found in the path I just browsed to.

I finally uninstalled GSX completely, as suggested in other threads on this forum.

But now I still can't re-install GSX because the sim isn't detected, nor can I manually select the installation path.

Any suggestions?

Hans

You must have an error in your registry keys. See here for some resolution steps:

Okay, here's the thing: I'm running Windows 10. Only FSX:SE is installed after purchase of the PC in december.

I am unable to run the executable using the command prompt via the command that's in the link to the other topic.
Therefore I can't provide you with the installer logfile. Is there another way to make that happen?

Update: I purchased GSX in january and I found a back-up of the installer file I received after purchase.
It's version 1.9.12.0. The one that I just downloaded from the website today is version 1.9.9.3. It seems to be older.

The january version has just installed flawless! I was able to update using the Live Update via the FSX menu few minutes ago.
All is fine now. But I still find it strange that 'the january file' seems to be a newer version compared to the current one available
on the website and that the latter doesn't work.

Is there anything I can do provide data to you guys? Things work fine for me now, but maybe others could profit?

As I've said, see here for some resolution steps:

http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,13800.0.html

Which means, provide your installation log (as explained there), so we can tell you what's wrong with your system.

Downloaded the GSX installer (version 1.9.9.3) from the website.

After starting the installer, sims still are not found. Also this time the 'browse' button is grayed out.
When I click on the grayed out 'FSX:SE' button I get a prompt saying "The product will be installed in:").
I click 'Okay'. The set-up screen pops up and I click 'Next'.
A download process starts, quiting half way displaying the error
"Internal error: An attempt was made to expand the "app" constant before it was initialized'

Ik can press 'OK' which brings me back to the setup screen where I can click 'Next'...and I'm in the same loop.

Thnx for your efforts!!

Unfortunately still doesn't work.

The FSX:SE tile is now coloured and I can click on it.

The rest of the loop remained the same I'm afraid.

Grtz.,

GSX worked perfectly for me from the date I bought it and downloaded it. I loved it! When I was prompted to update the addon manager just the other day, I went along with it. I was completely dismayed that, following the update, FSX Acceleration was crashing to desktop. I was also dismayed that my computer now decided, while loading FSX, that FSUIPC was a suspicious program. I was also dismayed that, when I had followed advice given in these forums, that vehicles were missing and/or disappearing. I was also dismayed that I now have to remove some of the "free airport sceneries" that I used successfully BEFORE the update in order to get at least some part of GSX to work again in FSX.

I have followed every instruction that I can find in the forum, I turned off my virus program, I removed one of the airport sceneries that I use, I reinstalled FSUIPC and edited the config as suggested, I have done everything I can to make this installation successful including reinstalling GSX. It's all been in vain because whatever I do GSX is still not working as it did before the update.

Being a software user, rather than a clever programmer makes me less able to get into the depths of it all and, since it worked perfectly for me before the update with no changes to my setup, I am dismayed to find that I now have to remove GSX and the Updater in order to get my FSX back the way it was. That is of course, the way it was before GSX.

I hope that you come up with an answer to this issue, there seem to be a lot of people with complaints and questions.

I'm sorry, but what you say simply cannot happen. What kind of "loop" you are referring to ? If the FSX:SE icon is clickable, you only click on it and it will install it there.

I don't understand what this has anything to do with this thread, which discusses ONLY a very specific issue about the previous version of installer not detecting FSX:SE when the registry keys were wrong, which is now fixed.

If you have another problem, open a new thread and describe more precisely ("still not working" doesn't mean much) what's your problem you are having. Do not reply here.

Apologies. It seemed to me that my experiences with the latest update were the same as everyone else who has posted. I will make a new post, but I doubt it will help.
